TC fully skimmed oil
« on: 09 August 2013, 14:18:29 »

How much does a 5 litre bottle of GM oil cost when bought on a 4 for 3 offer? I can't make head nor tail of my receipt  :-\

Pt Number      Description     Bin       Retail      Qty      List       Value
93165409       oil, engine      bulk     £50         3         £20.46   £49.98
93165409       free oil          bulk      £0.00      1         0.00      0.00

No matter which way I add/divide/multiply I can't get 3 lots of £20.46 to come to £49.98  ???  ???  (all +vat of course)

Not complaining, it works out to almost £15 a metric gallon, but just no idea how they arrive at the price on the receipt  :-\

Odd, you receipt doesn't look much like the ones I've had before.. they normally only list a Retail price (each) and then a Value or Net Total line which is the (hidden) TC price multiplied by Qty..

Maybe List in your case is Trade price?

Ignore the 3, and the 'free' 4th one. You are buying, and paying for 4.
So it's £49.98/4, or £12.50 each. Which is no different from buying 10/40 semi-synthetic from Eurocarparts.

Doesn't matter what you call it. If you hand over money, and they give you 4 items then you are buying 4!  And that's how you work out the unit cost. It's just a bulk buy deal, not magic.

As for branded oil, I've not noticed any difference over the last 26 years to worry about anything other than the grade and specification.

The £20 is the retail price (ex vat)

You paid the TC price of £12, plus a 4 for 3 offer.

Not disagreeing, but I think the key here is that GM oil is tried and tested in Omegas. We know some oils, despite meeting the specs, aren't so good in our cars.

Mind you, I always question how long ECP keep stuff on the shelves, thus try not to use them.

Seen lot of issues with mayo in oil, blocked breathers with not so long changes.

GM oil is proven to last well, not cause issues & well priced.

Have you got a link Nick?

Cheapest I can see on line from euro car parts is £18.98, for 5 litres of 10/40 semi. :(

Might have a receipt somewhere, but I paid about £18 for 6 litres when I did mine earlier this year. If i'd been thinking a bit more clearly, I would have had it from the drum at work like I did last year. I don't see the need for fully synth or thinner than 10/40.

Interesting, I was chatting to my mate at ECP the other day when picking up the Golf brake bits, and said I would not be buying their oil. Funny, he said, a lot of my trade customers are buying GM oil.  :-X

This is just my opinion.....

it doesn't matter what oil you're using if you're doing regular oil changes. as long as its of SAE standard and of the correct grade for your car.

however the reason i always use GM oil is a.) i have a trade card and very rarely can you get oil cheaper and b.) cars ALWAYS react nicely to it. i find when i dump a load of GM oil in i can hear the engine go quieter and run more smoothly. whether i'm imagining tht i'm not sure but that's how it feels.
