well done and a shame about your outcome,i once caught a bag snatcher.saw him grab a bag off a lady at the shop entrance to a florist so I floored my old 1.6 diesel escort onto the wrong side of the road ans saw  the lad go up a snicket,i knew where it came out and floored my car again to the other end jumped out and caught the lad,the woman turned up on foot and got her bag back and refused any more help and I found out the day after it was her shop and the bag had a weeks takings and every order she had for weddings that year in it,the lad wriggled free after I left before she could call police(he was only a nipper),annoying thing was id been to the shop to see if she was ok and within a week my nan died so iwent there being local for some flowers and the bitch charged me full
