i'd personally have no qualms about putting non-vx pads or discs in. my personal view (not arguing just my opinion :)) is that vx are really very expensive.

Not on Trade Club, £100 for front discs and pads? it's also relative, price up discs and pads on an Audi A8. That is expensive  ;)

I don't doubt Audi discs and pads are expensive. :)

As for the TC pads I was clearly ripped off by the dealer then cos when I bought front pads and discs on TC and took them up to martin's to help me fit them (back when I couldn't even change oil by myself  ;D) they were more than that. on the TC site but it wont show prices for some reason.

All DBW V6s should have vented, if it'd got solids on there, you want to change them ASAP.

I thought so. So Toledodude already has the wrong discs fitted  ???  ???  ???

Charged retail? Last time I bought a set, was around £75+ vat, although that was around a year ago. Think it's more £85 + vat now.

Try Ford, Fiat, ect, all similar prices. Vx are no worse than any other big dealer.

One key thing stopping me switching to Jag or Audi, is lack of access to trade parts.

Yeah, sounds like it. Also recall posts here about pins/calliper falling out as vented are much bigger. So when the solid one wears, the calliper can fall out  :o

Fixed :y

Pads held in by pins. Pads same across the range, but vented discs have a wider caliper with longer pad retaining pins and a wider anti rattle spring :y

ToledoDude
You need to check that your discs should in fact be twice as thick as what you already have fitted ie you seem to have solid discs fitted when you should have vented discs fitted. If so you are in danger of losing the fluid from the rear brake circuit as & when one of the pistons (can't remember which - I have solid discs  ;)) runs out of caliper as the pad wears. Net result is that you have half the brakes you should have!

Vented disc calipers have an 'extra' section about 12mm wide between the two halves :y might also have 42 stamped on the outer piston side :y

exactly what I was thinking... when you put this engine size in to ECP it only comes up with solid rear discs

Are the calipers definitely not wider? Solid discs have a 2 piece caliper, Vented have 3 piece calipers.

Ideally need to get the wheel off to double check...

Think you need that looked at :-\
