Oh dear    Ex taxi Al has got me worried after reading on  another oof  thread about Ryanair 

right , going to the canaries soon       but only flight i could get on the day required was with RYANAIR 

Seems that a majority of people avoid this so called "airline"  like the plague

Anyone had any recent experience of flying with them ?  If so could you share the details.

The general feeling I am getting is that using them is a absolute no-no

But flight is booked & paid  for & despite having another look  . . There are no other options for those dates  (out & return)

A friend of mine has just come back from where are holidaying to  . .using Ryanair  . . & he said he had no problems at all.

He did mention that the 3 main problems for other passengers were penalities for not having printed off there tickets etc. &

Not self booking in online before hand & some cabin hand luggage was too large to for Ryanairs size allowance.

We have 2 recently purchased "cabin luggage" specialist size cases.

I have paid for an extra 20kg case to go in the hold & with cabin luggage that will be plenty .

Provided i do the printing of the tickets , boarding passes etc. correctly & in time  . .

What else should I be aware of ?

Is ryanair 's hand luggage allowance smaller than other airlines ?

Do you get allocated seats ?  or is it still first on . . sit where you want  . . last on  . .sit where evers left ?

any advice on this matter  ( apart from stay at home )   greatly appriciated

People do exaggerate but I nearly missed a flight because of these jokers. Make sure you know all the rules about luggage weight, and take proof of your extra allowance - a woman in front of us had paid for extra weight allowance and they denied all knowledge of it at the desk.
  Get there early, as most passengers have the same idea and get through as soon as they can, knowing that it's a free-for-all when you get on the plane. It will always take you longer than you think to get through check-in because of all the passengers that haven't prepared properly, ie checked in online, too much weight in their bags etc, and make sure you're in the correct queue, as they didn't make this very clear one time and having got to the end of one queue, I had to join the end of another one, and so did many others.

I would avoid them if at all possible personally, but they are cheap

My Mrs and my daughter went to the Canaries a couple of years ago by Ryanair. She said it was good, for what you pay. The important thing is to absolutely and completely understand the rules and what you can do and what you have to pay extra for.

Yep, that's the way it usually goes, the flight I nearly missed had the four of us all seated separately, not ideal when your kids are only 5 and 8 (at the time). We then moved together into some empty seats which they were keeping empty for take-off and landing for weight distribution

My Mrs and my daughter went to the Canaries a couple of years ago by Ryanair. She said it was good, for what you pay. The important thing is to absolutely and completely understand the rules and what you can do and what you have to pay extra for.

I watched a programme about Ryanair last week. It was about safety and fuel levels, 3 Ryanair flights to Spain were diverted and had to make quick landings because they only carried the bare minimum of fuel. It was an eye opener

No, it's fairly straightforward, but most people have been on lots of flights before and just assume that Ryanair are the same as other airlines. They're not. Just read the rules and make sure you know and understand them and you should be fine

I found it was the little things that annoyed me ........

Seats seemed closer together
Seats didn't recline
Adverts on side of overhead bins
Recorded adverts played through PA

Flights were ok apart from that and the hassle of checkin as has been said already .....

Apart from printing your own ticket (in good quality) the Baggage thing, the cabin baggage size (which is free, fairly sure they wont to charge for this on there checkin page), all should be fine.

The only other thing is once in the air, buy your Life Jackets early (upgrade to ones with the wistle and flashing light bulb as this helps with the search and rescue people), as they tend to run out half way through the Flight

They an be crap BUT ......£10 to get to and from Munich is cheaper than a taxi ride to our town centre, I don't know how they can do these offers but it's cracking value when they come up!

I think as you are prepared, you'll be fine.

Whilst, lets face it, they are cutting all their costs to the bone, and use any excuse to upsell, most of the trendy slagging of them is by taking what comes out of O'Leary's gob as fact.


Get there early to avoid the retards who cause delays by demanding BA/Virgin service at Ryanair prices. Even if it means sitting in the shopping area for a while, and buying expensive coffee.  2 of the last 3 times I've flown (both with Thomson), we have struggled to check in and get through security before the flight closes, despite arriving significantly more than 2hrs before .  In fact that 3rd one would have been similar, but fortunately the flight was delayed by a couple of hours.  I do think this is more of the incompitence of Birmingham and Luton airports, rather than the airline, but still something you need to bear in mind.
