We were away last week on holiday in Menorca and had a hire car For the week it was a Chevrolet Cruz very very similar to the insignia saloon
On the last but one day we went to the beach and I went out snorkeling I had been out about half an hour and for some reason felt in my shorts pocket the car key 
So After swimming back in and fearing the worst I opened up the fob expecting it to be full of water and fubared but it was surprisingly dry internally So I left it sat in the sun opened up and expected it not to work when we returned to the car but it was fine  It was a three button type with a flip out key as Vx use now
I just wondered if anyone else has got one wet and wether I was just lucky ,it did look as if it had been wet before at some point

Yep, did the same thing with the Mig keys  starts ok but remote for doors doesn't work anymore, learnt to live with it to a certain extent, but does get on ya nerves at times, haven't got the dosh at the moment to get it sorted

The newer design might be a bit more water resistant

Could also be that being a newer key, the seals still work as noone has had cause to dismantle it to change the batteries

A new fob is around the £30/£35 mark & probably about the same again if you need Vauxhall to programme it for you but you might be able to get it programmed at a meet if there's still a Tech II available. You'll need your 'Car Pass' though with the code who ever does it for you.

The chevvy cruise is a fine car, the orlando is the people carrier version and both are on the astra j platform, hence the vx (gm) key fob. If you had looked under the bonnet, you would have found the same ecotech unit as in the astra, zafira, meriva etc.

Chevrolet quoted me £55 for the fob+blade and £100 to program it, I don't have the car pass.
However, the guy in Timpsons cut the blade, supplied the fob and programmed it for £114. He also extracted the PIN without the need for a car pass.

Does it not give you X seconds to turn the ignition on

I'm sure I used to open mine with the key sometimes, but I can't be absolutely sure......
