Local garage uses oil burning heaters. Free to them, once installed, and they still have an excess they can't get rid of.

Where as my Mum had to move to a smaller house in Cumbria due to the prohibitive cost of the oil fired boiler. I don't know the figures though. Living in the sticks ain't cheap. Afaik.

It comes under DEFRA, Part B of Environmental Permitting, loads of info here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/211863/env-permitting-general-guidance-a.pdf

The issue is the people you consult are bloody useless, I have just this week been speaking to them regarding oil storage and bunds, when asked what storage capacity the bund required if holding 2 off seperate 205 litre drums they stated the sum of the two plus 25%. Research shows this is wrong and its actualy 110% of the largest container or 25% of the total capacity, which ever is greatest.

Hence I would have been buying one to dam large if it wasnt for the fact I decided what they were saying made no sense and researched out the formal regs.  >:(

Remembering also that just becasue you ahev been given bad advice, does not stop you getting a fine or worse....

Yes, do a bit more digging and you will find it needs a minimum 5m flue which is 2m from windows and openings and at least 1 m above the roof line.
