Failure of low energy light-bulb .........
« on: 18 November 2013, 16:57:31 »

Ok, we are all encouraged to use these compact fluorescent light bulbs .......

You know the ones, that use only a little electricity & last for ages  :-X

On the downside, they are now quite a bit more expensive than they were when they were being subsidised and are apparently harmful to the environment.

I had one fail a few days ago, well outside any guarantee as it was about 18 months old - so no chance of finding the receipt!

Anyway, it was branded Homebase on the bulb itself (so no arguement as to where it came from) - so I contacted their customer services people and quoted the multitude of numbers printed on the bulb. I got a result as they have provided me with a voucher - its not massive compensation, but will cover the cost of a replacement bulb and fuel to my nearest Homebase store.

So, there you go, a happy ending ......

Cheap Chinese shit = low life expectancy.

Buy branded (Philips, Osram, Sylvania, etc) if you want it to last.

Think ive got loads of the mini spirals (i found them the brightest and 'warmed' up the fastest) in the cupboard, i used to clean Tesco's out of them, when they were 25p each.

Tho' havent had one 'blow'  in a long time (i cannot remember when i last changed one)

These new low energy bulbs are one of my pet hates.

Oh to go back to the "good old days" when if a bulb went you had a suitable spare in the cupboard. Now (in Spain) you have devices with a multitude of variety. E14 E27, G10, X50, Gti,RS and so on. When one goes you go to the shops and they haven't got anything like the one you want. So as you have a pair of (e.g. bedside lamps) you buy two and put the other working bulb to one side. It will never get used. We have 8 outside lights and I long ago gave up trying to get matching replacement lamps(white light, cream light, off white).  One internal fitting had two bulbs and one went three weeks after install. Went back to the shop and had to wait a fortnight before they got anymore of "that" bulb in stock. they did replace it free though. And before you ask none are from a pound shop only reputable shops. I think it is a wonder of the Marketing folk of the modern age. 10 year guarantee. Some bulbs are nearly£10. Who keeps receipts to match lights? No one

Having said all that, well done LincsRobert getting a refund.  :y

Led bulbs are the way forward  :y :y

You get a real good light from them for only about 3w energy equivilant to a 35w gu10 and don't blow as much :)
