They will be saying next that it is ileagal for a mortorist to flash at another to warn them of a speeding trap. ;D ;D ;D

:o I believe it is illegal already; "Interfering with an officer in the course of his duty".

....Hotel 21 (or one of the other 'serving' OOF`ers) might be able to confirm it, but I think there are such 'catch-all' offences should a P.C take objection to any behaviour.

Regarding the original post, this is rather outrageous. Why ca'nt the law just p*ss off, leave people alone? Sorry Broocie & other serving officers, i understand you have to enforce laws you may not agree with but this is ridiculous.

Unfortunately serving officers have to uphold the law, whether they find a particular application ridiculous or not. What seems to be different these days (from my "Heartbeat" days) is the removal of a great deal of discretion from those "at the coalface" and the imposition of ridiculous targets.

TBH the role of these PCSO's escapes me, they cost almost as much as a copper to train and employ -- why not have a real copper out there ( off the point of this thread, I know, .... but I am beginning to go off on a rant .... so will shut up now  :-X )

A few years ago I stopped to help a copper who was in a dismal spot. It was raining after a storm and part of a tree had fallen into the road on a blind bend on a hill. He had the joy of controlling traffic around this hazard until the council clearance crew could be roused (it was a Sunday evening).

I sized up the task and reckoned I could clear it with the small wood saw I carry in the boot in case I end up with the car in a bush, or something. After some bloody hard work I cut through the thickest branches at key points and then the PC and I were able to drag the bits out of the road.

He was pretty grateful to be out of that situation so quickly and 'insisted' on taking some details to pass on to his superiors. Somewhere in a draw I have a letter of commendation from Leicestershire Constabulary thanking me for my assistance in releasing the officer for other duties.

Trouble is, nowadays I would most likely leave him standing there in the rain because those "other duties" could quite likely be gratuitously booking motorists for technical offences for the purposes of meeting targets and raising revenue. I'm afraid I don't have a lot of time for plod now. As others have observed they have become the equivalent of being the paramilitary wing of the Guardian newspaper; just another aspect of the great parasitical infestation of statism that is crippling this country.

When my car is vandalised it's "sorry, we don't come out for that" from a civilian filtering assistant. Yet they find plenty of time to sit in camera vans lurking on stretches of road that have ludicrously low speed limits, just to grab some dosh from the motorists' pockets. They're happy enough as an organisation to make themselves the enemy of the people who pay for their existence, so I've little sympathy for them.

Having a tough time officer? Sorry, I don't come out for that.  >:( :(

I believe the Police's hands are tied on many of the said issues that annoy us civilians. I imagine most serving officers would like to be where we want them...on the street, that way they know who's who & can police properly. Todays problems are down to the PC brigade, slack parenting, too much paperwork/red tape etc. >:(

The average "bobbies" maybe, but the police as an organisation (or organisations) is (are) now institutionally inclined to this kind of behaviour and perfectly happy about it.

You only have to look at that prat who is chief constable of North Wales for proof.

We should adopt the US system of having the people elect sheriffs and police chiefs, that way they can be kicked out when they start operating on behalf of minority sandalistas (leftie Guardian readers).

I guess as new officers are recruited this will be be how they're taught to police. It gets worse & worse. We'll be told how to take a dump soon at this rate, but stabbing someone will only incur a small fine.
    Once again, easy pickings. :(

We'll be told how to take a dump soon at this rate...

We already are. The enviros have dictated how much water (new) lavatories in our homes can use in one flush (not much), and we are lumbered with pathetic examples that can't keep the stool under the water as we defacate. This results in unpleasant smells and streaks of faeces left above the water line. It actually takes more water to get rid of the waste with cleaning and multiple flushes than it did with older lavatories with higher water capacity.

The state is there in your home every time you take a dump, once again making life worse for you for no good reason on this earth.
