Tourette Syndrome
« on: 01 June 2008, 22:25:31 »

Just got one eye on More4 and a programme called "My Street"......one of the featured characters is a Tourette`s sufferer; I know it`s not funny to mock the afflicted, but watching him ordering a pizza (by telephone) whilst issuing a steady stream of deeply-offensive and pornographic words at the shop worker; I found it terribly hard to keep a straight face. :-[
I wonder how many 'non-understanding' people the poor chap has been assaulted by in his life? :'(

There was a lad on years ago with this problem..... i remember his mother serving dinner, and this lad doing his thing and spitting fish and chips all over her face ;D she never flinched ;D ;D ;D

Then they put him in a room on his own at school dinner time... I must admit one of the funniest things i have seen :o

TOURETTES SYNDROME IS NOTHING TO LAUGH ABOUT! IT IS NOT FUNNY!

It is a dehabilitating illness and should not be treated as a joke!

How would you feel if you were a sufferer and read this thread?

Whilst to a very few "true" sufferers, it may be debilitating, there are far too many foul mouthed, bad mannered, pond lives who have grabbed hold of yet another "label" as an excuse for their miserable self-centered way of living.

All I seem to hear these days is "Tourettes" "ADHD" "Asbergers", Dyslexia" etc etc etc ... 90% of the time an excuse for bad manners, bad behaviour and poor parenting......

Lets blame a condition and not the laziness of parents who can't be bothered to teach their offspring how to behave correctly - and that includes how to learn.

lets face it .. it CAN'T be the parents fault can it .. they are all perfect ......

glad you see it that way! can i assume that i am a bad parent then and that this is the reason my son has autism!! should i assume that i am wholly to blame when he comes out with inappropriate comments in public?

it is the predjudiced and frankly disgraceful views of people like you who make disability an issue!

i'm damn sure you would feel differently if it was you or yours!
