Lots of errors on the railway side.

A class 37 loco with high intensity headlight (rather than a Vac only 40)
Running on single line for many shots
Wrong line for the robbery (hence why the second man crossed the down main to call the signal man)
Engine stopped during the shots of the robbery, then instantly running again when they go to leave.
Enegine sound was of something that was not EE!
Horns were very 'foreign' sounding
The 'train theft' from the shed was equaly bad, takes a good 15 mins to get air up before you can move off.

As for the vac leak, they started by showing air escaping (on a vac setup!) and a twin exhauster diesel will easily pull 21 inch of vac with such a small leak.

Watchable but niggly bits for me

As Leatherslade Farm is just up the road from me, and the fact that I did my toolmaking apprenticeship with the owner, who's lived in it since the robbery (his parents owned it before him), I thought I'd have a quick look for nostalgia reasons. Sadly it wasn't filmed out this way so I gave it a miss so can't comment on the program.
Sounds like it was worth watching, continuity errors aside.

Of course you are right Andy :y :y

i have never got the hang of pressure/vacuum readings, and usually get confused when they are quoted in the books I read. ::) ::) :y :y

I'm going into hiding when she does, besides it's STEMO's fault.

Set in 1963 with music from 1967 :( Then again who cares :y

Ah, us historical purists do Cleggy! :y :y :y

I knew I could rely on a diesel fan Mark to notice such flaws!! :y :y :y

Very interesting stuff which makes such drama's worth the watch! ;D >: ;D  Did you, or anyone else, notice the distinct sound of a steam locomotive pulling the TPO when the diesel was meant to be moving it?! ;D ;D :y :y :y :y

In "A Coppers Tale" last night, it showed Chief Super Tommy Butler walking down a single line in the lead up to an obvious loop.  So not only was the shot of the train during the night of the robbery shown on the wrong line, but in other scenes it was on a single line.

I wish these productions showed more care with the accuracy of what they are trying to convey

Yes. The less anal among us probably thought it was just cops and robbers. ;D

This is always an interesting observation and a realistic one. However, with these productions that are trying to show the "historic" facts of the subject I believe it is important to "get things right" in terms of settings, costumes and practical aspects, including all props.  It is like the Downton Abbey production team allowing a 1940 Rolls Royce in a scene meant to occur in 1920.  No, they correctly used Rolls Royce's and other vehicles contemporary of the period shown, and that is in a fictional story line.  If portraying an historical incident, then it should get most, if not all, spot on in terms of contemporary portrayals.  It does affect the enjoyment of those of us who note such detail, and expect professionals in their game to meet those standards of quality.  It can be the difference between a good production and an excellent one :) :)

Just my thoughts! :y :y

As the guy on the telly said " Trying to recreate a night in august down sarf, on a single track in Yorkshire in April with four feet of snow was nigh on impossible"

"But we think only the anally retentive will notice".

I made the last bit up. ;D

Except, to the Americans, it wouldn't be the great train robbery, it would be the great petty cash snatch.
