I drove mine for a few weeks with old one removed,but as said,you must waterproof the exposed end as the pump will get muck/dirt inside the system.

It is a fiddly job removing and refitting as space is very restricted and the little bolts are almost out of sight but patience and it can be done with a selection of flexy shafts and torque keys.

Give it a go ,after reading the excellent write up on it in the maintenence section.

It would be worth your while,and save you alot of grief,if you can either remove the faulty abs unit,or get somebody else to do so.Then send it off for a refurb at say BBA Remain in Rochester as they will do a full refurb on it and give it a warranty.Allyou thyen need to do is refit it and it will be sorted.

IMHO I think that would be a safer option and alot quicker.It should cost sub £130 and obviously a few £,s to have it removed/refited if you don,t fancy the job.I would happily pick the old unit up from you as in Caterham Tuesday evening and could drop it off at BBA Wednesday morning as I live just round the corner from them .They refurbished mine on my old 98.2.5 several years ago and I know others have used them to.

Pm if you need any help,but I did struggle removing mine so its not a job I would be looking to take on again

I paid a garage £65 to remove my ABS ECU and refit it once it had been repaired by BBA Reman, and judging by what others here have said about the job and what a PITA it is, I think it was money well spent! 

So I second what Amba says here and I recommend getting yours fixed by BBA Reman as it's still fine 5 years on! 

Edit: It might cost a bit more than £65 these days though.....

This is an Abs pump that has been removed from my 1996 Manual Vauxhall Omega 3.0 ltr V6 Petrol Elite. It is a Bosch pump and is numbered 0265303002.

Is this the same number as yours?

I see his is a manual and yours is an auto, I don't know if this makes a difference, I will have a look around and see if I can find out

I pre 1998 v6 ECU is not suitable for a post 1998 v6

The part is on the car so I can't find the number.

There are a few different par numbers, 3.0 auto is really hard to get hold of you are better sending yours off for repair (I was in the same position and waited over 12 months never found a 2nd hand ABS ecu with the same part number as my 3.0 elite -  0273004207.

BBA reman have recently put their prices up and now want £200 for doing an Omega ABS ecu which is too much, you are better off using ECU Testing ltd - they still charge £100 plus £30 collect and deliver

It would be great to send the part away and get it fixed but funds are very tight due to unemployment. I'm trying to get the car sorted as cheaply as possible which isn't ideal I know, but I've got no choice.

The car is driving fine apart from a noisy wheel bearing. I've driven some shocking cars in my time so not having abs or traction control isn't a problem.

About 3 years ago I had a 1955 Austin A30 and whilst driving the brakes completely failed. This turned out to be of the most scarey experiences of my life.

I was driving up Houghton Cut, a steep A road in the north east, when the engine lost power and the car started to roll backwards. Then gearstick came off in my hand and the handbrake didn't work!
