We have been accepted by cats protection league to foster a Kitten.

Foster, as opposed to adopt, as we want to be able to give the kitten back if it doesn't get on with our Masey who is the sweetest little cat you ever did meet, and seems to be pining for animal company.

Fingers crossed that Buttons is as friendly.

Wonder if anyone has experience of cats behaviour and any way of increasing the likely hood that the two will get along.

Obviously there are a few on here that aren't cat lovers so do feel free to start your own thread elsewhere if you want to make kebab jokes. Ya mongrels ;D

My experience is that when another cat is introduced into a household they merely tolerate each other.  ;) ;) ;) ;)

Hmmm. Initially H had two cats. Twin brothers. Almost impossible to tell apart. Went everywhere together, inseparable. Up on roofs, chased of other cats, ran the roost, and pretty much did as they pleased. ;D

Then one was hit by a car, tother withdrew totally so H got another cat, Masey, (she's got her nose in my ear as I type) ;D  to bring him out of himself. Which worked.

Except he completely ignored Masey. Never acknowledged her at all, and I suspect took a lump or two out of her when we where away.

Masey is the mothering sort, mischievous but always gentle. She always wanted his attention, and got frustrated when he ignored her. So I suspect she will be fine with any cat.
We just need to find another cat that will be fine with her. I suspect another female will be better, as males alway want to dominate as they get older. Even between mother and son, as I found when I was younger and our female had kittens.

Same as Billy & Ben then ( ....... the kids named them when they were young!  ::) ::) ::) ) but the female that we already had wouldn't give either the time of day.  ;D ;D

I should add :-[ , the male died about 9months ago from, we think, lymphoma.

She's been calling ever since, hence we think another cat would help her, but we'll see. She actually gets the right arse when we go away. Lady over the road feeds her. Then we get the sulk routine on return. ;D

It kinda worked with the dog... she didn't like being left, but as soon as we got a second one, they were both fine 8)

This worked right upto the point the second one went mental and had to be put down :'(

Original dog is ok, but does create a bit if left alone :-\

A Feliway difuser (electronic air freshener type thing) can really reduce the stress to the cats when doing things like this :y

Ah, now you mention those Jimbob, yes we have one of those. Helped greatly in keeping Masey's stress levels down when she had high blood pressure. For reasons unknown.

They seem to work a treat. :y

Oddly, our stupid runt-of-the-litter became a different cat when the other one died, really came out of herself.  TBH, the other one demanded so much attention, that Picks became a loner during that time.

Soz, can't help with your initial question, but I think it shows that its in the hands of the Gods, as I guess every pair of moggies will react differently.

Good luck, and I hope Buttons and M become best of companions for play, sleep and company.

Yes that's my feeling. They behave very differently with humans than to other cats as well. So that's no judge either.

Suck it and see time. We meet Buttons on Sunday. He looks a right little monkey ;D

If it's introduced as a kitten it will probably be accepted as her own, I'd have thought.

Hopefully. He looks a bit big for 6months though.
