Went to start it this morning and it nearly caught then made a fluffy type noise, following cranking sounded very fast and certainly not normal at all, compression gone???. AA on route to see what the score is :'(

Hmmm, if its spinning, could be Cambelt gone, get the AA Man to check it first, before continually trying to crank it over.

Well stone me, false start meant petrol washed away the oil resulting in the low compression symptoms ! started eventually and running sweet :y

Borewash apparently!

Bore wash is where unburnt fuel washes the oil from the bore sides and compromises the piston ring seal.

The question is......why all the unburnt fuel

Indeed, it caught a little then didn't start but I wouldn't have thought it would chuck enough much juice in to cause that problem?

Indeed.

By the way, if you do get signs of flooding, floor the throttle and crank it for a bit.

So basically it's over fuelling somehow? So first port of call would be looking to see if its going to closed loop or not?

In this case no as it was a cold start so would have been open loop until it was warmed up (O2 sensors only operate when very hot).

It could be a weeping injector, flooring it and cranking for a few seconds followed a normal start would prove that
