Ikea has it's place, budget was low when I bought my London flat.

I had to purchase a very expensive £19 table, to be used as my main dinning table. It was naked pine wood, needed a couple of coats of clear varnish, but still going strong. For the money, can't complain. Big bowls and plates too, uber cheap, what more do you need from a plate?

Some of their stuff is tat, some is stupidly expensive, but their middle of the road stuff is ok.

Their lights are not too bad either, £5 for tower lamp, can't say no to that.
Its all tat, and all overpriced for what you are getting. But what else would you expect?

The lights are shite, as you have to use their less common bulbs due to the fittings.

£15 for a table? It was solid wood  ;)

Define 'Shite' - I bought 3 of them in 2009. To date I've not replaced a single bulb.

Fixed that for you Mr Tunnie.

Except the bit where the table had reduced in price...

£15/19, which ever. It was what I had to spend, it's still being used today. Nothing has broken, it's not fallen to bits. It's been in daily use, survived parties along with being chucked in a van twice and lugged around. Shed loads of boxes stacked on it in the van, also in garage while stored for couple of months, still going strong. So I personally consider that a successful purchase & far from shite  ;)

When it was nice and new, incidentally, it still looks the same  ::)

Soft, fast grown pine, even if you write on a piece of paper with a ball point pen, it will leave an indentation. Its the same tat MFI used to sell in the 80s and 90s, but because its Ikea, it must somehow be special (think BMW mindset). It ain't, its cheap tat at above cheap tat prices.

Well done on varnishing it when you got it, that will help protect the top a bit. Obviously, though, that cost extra though.

Well I'm happy with it  :y

It's been abused with my cooking, hot pans on it ect, spillages been fine. I'd buy another...

Also, on another up side, being cheap and light it's not heavy when you move.  :)

MrsT has a nice bit of furniture at her flat, very nice it is too. Proper solid build, from an antique shop. Considered it has TV media thing, trouble is, it took 6 people to move it into her flat. So guess where it is now  ::)

Speaking of desks  ::)

I dug out my old one from Uni, popped that in the garage back in 2007 after my Uni days. That was Ikea, got it out 2 weeks ago, washed it down, re-assembled it all good. Best desk I ever got, it's fairly large, no stupid stands for monitors or printers or anything else, just a large flat surface, which takes into account skirting boards.

Feking heavy it is too, not solid, but standard plastic wood over some chipboard. No complaints there either.

Have you actually purchased anything of theirs and used it?

Laminate doesn't mean 'covered in plastic', it means 'layerered'. 1-2 mm of real pine can cover a nice stable chipboard base quite convincingly... ::)

Sadly, yes. And not just from their cafeteria.

Argos furniture is cheaper and better made. And that's shite as well!
