My neighbours loss adjusters are a 3rd party working for his insurance. I need to be careful what I say, but strikes me as odd that if we use their builders, they do not bat an eyelid at £40k + VAT, not including contingency costs as stated by their own schedule. Yet provide them with a significantly cheaper quote, and they are choking on it.

That strikes me as suspicious.

I believe my neighbour may go in that direction. *BUT* that likely will delay getting agreements for the rebuild. *sigh*.

Insurance Ombudsman is a VERY VERY slow process.... we are still being messed about with our complaint which dates back to September 2013...... IO will not even consider your complaint until you have exhausted the company complaint procedure, so all the company have to do is to say "We are considering your complaint and will respond appropriately" ... and the IO will take no action ... :(

As said, insurer needs to exhaust their complaints procure to the point that your financial loss is recovered, or your not satisfied with the settlement offered and they are not prepared to pay more.

In which case, only then will the ombudsman open a case on your request, and the insurer MUST inform you of how to contact the ombudsman... it will likely then take at least a year to settle, as they are back logged to the rafters, and longer if the insurer doesn't pay up, and on it goes.

In short, the complaint will not prolong the claim. Its a separate process by a separate dept.

Usually they have a much better attitude. You may find matters improve.

....ime of motor claims anyway.

IMO you have more than enough grounds for complaint.

I have no grounds for complaint with my insurance, currently, except maybe a sluggish start which may have been due to my unrealistic expectations.

The current delays and silly buggers are all with my neighbours insurance.

I wonder if the fact my loss adjuster is an employee of my insurance company, and my neighbours is subcontracted out, makes a difference?

Speaking of garages .. my shed base went down yesterday (well, almost .. it's one row of slabs short until it gets finished):

Poured concrete might have been better, but the slabs were free.. and the shed at my last place sat there for 10 years on slabs with no issues.

Just need to get the shed, now!

Plenty of little gaps to lose washers/small screws down.  :)

I've got problems if they manage to fall through the T&G floor of the shed to the slabs ;)

;D The main problem is that it should really be one big brick built, dry, insulated, warm structure about 9m x 6m with enough height for a two post lift.

But I don't think the planners would sign off on that .. or my bank manager on the 30-40k build cost!

Is anyone we know buried under that - if not I am sure a few deserving candidates will come to mind.
