Funnily enough was thinking of diesel mpg on the motorway today, an inside lane cruise should see mid 50's easily. But since I started using the car for work, I've worked out that to get the same pence per mile using a diesel, I would have to average 48mpg to work.

It's around 25 miles, a mixture of motorway and heavy stop/start traffic. More stop/start than motorway cruise really, so even a modern diesel I think would struggle to do that.

about 36-38mpg from my 2.2Dti estate on an 8 mile trip to work each day, but soon to be a lot less than that as the 3.2V6 is coming home :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :y

Funnily enough I have a turbo diesel (2.0 Hdi Peugeot) Can't fault it really.

I have two speeds.

Driving Miss Daisy and flat out .

The latter is a bit scary. :o :o They are just raising the speed limit to 130 (about 80 mph)on our motorways.

The former is just going with the flow. You would just get road rage if you didn't . When we have visitors from the Uk , without exception they get apoplectic stuck behind folk doing 20 on open roads.......

My diesel has one speed. Flat out. Which equals Miss Diasy speeds. Even tunnie would think about overtaking me

The magic figure.... ;) ;) I tend to keep to this in the Jeep, gives a cruising speed for around an indicated 75 MPG and leaves another 2000 more rpm if needed............. :y :y

The real kicker is the 60 litre tank, as it make the range seem pretty pathetic :-\

Got the first brim to brim figures from the Battlebus (I can't find right config for the GID ;D), and can beat your Insignia...  ...by 0.2mpg, 35.66mpg

200 miles of that tank was a 75mph jaunt up the M1, so was expecting better, though 100 miles was ragging it around the hills on North York Moors.

Lower than I was expecting, but then it has got something fundamentally wrong with it.

So...have you ever thought of buying a 'newish' car, say three years old, that doesn't break down all the time? You'd get a decent mpg then. Just a thought.
