Gear box had a duck fit
« on: 03 May 2014, 15:44:57 »

Just back from Cornwall on the back of a recovery truck yesterday, first time ever. Selector lights flashing, erratic gear change and MCL coming on as well as the one with the spanner on.
Selector switch malfunction diagnosed,  happened last day of Holiday.
Have read the maintenance guide on cleaning and resetting the switch, which I shall start soon, I'm aching all over after the best part of nine hours being bounced around in three different recovery trucks :( :(
My questions are, would this switch being dirty, cause all these malfunctions?
For cleaning the switch does it have to be switch cleaner or will a good blast of Brake and Clutch cleaner be as good?

Nothing to do with your problem, Rob, but what the hell is a "duck fit"? I've never heard that expression before, but once I understand it, I just might use it myself!

  HI Ron
You've never seen a duck in the water flapping round in circles, at speed, maybe diving under and popping up somewhere else, bumping into other birds, not knowing which way he/ she is going, maybe after a bit of ours-u-father.    Come north of Watford you'll hear a few more.   ;D
Even Maggy Thatcher called an PM FRIT at question time and everybody down south (MPs)  looked  gone out,  until the BBC news explain what it meant.  ;D ;D :y

Job done car performing as normal, accept that the ECL (little Gearbox) is still on.   Will this go out in a short time, (that's assuming no other fault is present), or will it need to be cancelled ?
