I suffer from low ferritin levels regularly too, due to crohn's disease. Biggest problem I found was that iron tablets just pi**ed the crones off and caused it to play up big time. Solved now by iron infusions via an I.V. when needed, only takes about an hour as an out patient compared to 3 months of pills and stomach upset. Instant fix and no more forgetting to take the pills. :)

You learn something new every day.

I didn't know there was a link between crohn's and low ferritin.

What exactly is Crohn's disease anyway?

There are many other symptomns associated with crohns than just low iron.  Yesterday was International IBD awareness day  :y

Cem, My ferritin levels are currently at 12.4.

Apparently it should be the the band 25-200.

My 'white blood cell' count is also low at 4.1......it should be in the 4.5-10.0 band.

I dont think you have malnutrition in that age.. :-\

first port of call , stop any kind of alcoholic drinks (which breaks proteins and cholesterol) .. asap..

stop any kind of drugs you are using (except the critical ones related to heart-tension)  so your liver will have a rest and start to deal with your body..

thyroid seems to be suspicious but you may need a deeper check..

increase your exercise rate more than double..  :y

ps: may I remind, if you increase your daily blood flow rate x times, your liver and endocrinal system  will have the chance to repair x times more and also dont neglect the positive effect of x times more oxygen

I presume there are many reasons for low ferritin levels, repeated blood donation being just one of them. :y

Low ferritins, unusual for a ten year old I would have thought.
