Thats because when the electric mower goes you bin them knowing there is naff all you cna do about it 

I have to say, my petrol mows both lawns in less than half the time and if the grass is a bit long, it barely breaks a sweat, unlike the electric mower it replaced. 

Oh Yes.....a petrol mower can cut a field of hay.....the engine may 'grunt' a bit but it does it.....where as an electric.....would be tripping the overload cutout every few mins

Rubbish!    As long as you cut it regularly it's fine! 

Mind you sounds like you lot are a bunch of slack arses when it come to grass cutting and by the time you get round to it you're cutting down rain forests!      No wonder your petrol mowers are all buggered!!

My motor mower easily cuts foot high grass as long as you have it on a high cut setting. Not that I had a reminder over the weekend.

I was reminded how naff electric ones were by having to borrow one last year, after years of using my old Honda. It was a pain in the backside.

I cut both of my lawns on Monday with my flymo, grass was long and wet. Now it's short and neat and I didn't wake the neighbourhood up.

Fixed it!!  Missing has gone 

The replacement carb gasket and diaphram seems to have fixed it 

I reckon the old diaphram was letting too much petrol in.....because when i started it before, it used to smoke (white) quite badly for about 10secs until it started to warm up.......doesnt do that now 
Tho i was running it without airfilter.....would that make the difference 

A question tho.....I probably didn't need a new air filter....but i got one anyway....what sort of oil are you suppose to soak it in? Will Vx 10-40 do the job?

Its a Briggs and Stratton 4 stroke.

Started ok earlier.....running fine....cut half the grass and then it started missing quite badly...but doesnt stall...

After letting it cool down, ive taken the plug out...looked quite black, but doesnt look worn.
Cleaned it up with a wire brush and refitted.

Started up ok.....running fine...then after about 10 secs starts missing badly again.

Worth trying a new plug??

Had the same with mine. There's a gadget in the carb somewhere with a flappy bit in, like a reed valve. Repla ed on mine. All sorted.

Its worked well today....cut my neighbours hay field 
Plus my own.....

£7.50 spent on plug/carb gasket kit/air filter.....not bad for 10 years abuse....75p/year

Might treat it to an oil change and get the blade sharpened.....maybe

Yes, running without the air filter makes a big difference on such things.

Further more, many of them pump the fuel using a flappy rubber diaphram which is actuated by the vac pulse between the carb and the air filter.....no air filter, no pulse.

Others use the pulse of pressure from the crank case.

Then others use a gravity feed.

There was a flappy thing on the diaphram, there was also a spring that pressed on the diaphram as well. I think it was this part of the diaphram that was knackered, as the diaphram had assumed the shape of being pressed out by the spring and didnt have any elasticity resistance to the spring, if that makes sense 

Doesnt smoke anymore when starting with the air filter fitted either
