Wiper stalk/switch query
« on: 03 June 2014, 13:45:44 »

Hi guys,

I'm just finishing off my final electrical assessments and out of the three i'm doing i've chosen one to look at the wiper functions.

Firstly is there a guide to removing the wiper stalk? i did look throught MG but couldnt find one. If not does anyone know how to remove it?

Secondly i'm right in thinking the stalk is the switch, right? And therefore all the variable resistors (for the different speeds) will be part of the stalk... is there a little control box or something coming off the stalk?

Lastly, to test the function of the low speeds i was thinking that if i back probed the wire going to the motor on low functions (from wiring diagram i think this is a brown wire but that could be wrong as my wiring diagram is not great) and looked for voltage coming out of it when low activated, if i dont see reduced voltage but find a voltage coming in to the switch then i can condemn the switch, right?

Thanks boyos :)

Remove steering column cowl (3 screws under, 2 behind wheel at 9 o/clock/3 o/clock) release plastic tangs holding switch connector, release cruise plug if fitted. Jobbed

I asked a similar question the other day and a member very kindly put a link on my page to show me how to add variable wipers and there is a very good description with pics on the resistor board if it would help you ...but i do not know how to transfer it to you....but if you look it up on my page you may well see it  :y
