NCDC 2013
« on: 21 June 2014, 16:30:07 »

Will the gps side of the system only acquire a satelite fix with the disc inserted or will the unit have the "green gps" illuninated even without disc .?

Despite my disc being cleaned within an inch of its life and is totally spotless ,the HU keeps rejecting it and advising disc is dirty and needs cleaning.Any ideas as to fault...genuine disc which has worked perfectly for many months

As far as I can remember, assuming the Software has been loaded on it, it should show a Good or Bad GPS with no Disc, could be a laser issue, does it play a CD if you insert  one in there, you need to push the CDC Button under the Eject to make it work from memory.

Cheers Chris.

Will give that a try.Bought a cable crimper and a couple of RG58 sma connecters to try my mod.

Cut both the existing RG58 black cables after they exited the blue socket and fitted sma plugs to each end .All good I hoped after soldering thin brass center core sleeve and crimping the body .So far so good but then the success failed again.Tried both puls into my new gps aerial and still not finding a gps signal as green ligth not illuminating nor showing "active"

Inserted disc and despite being spotless it kept getting spat out and message advising disc needed cleaning .

Back to square 1 really as still not picking up gps signal.Might have a look at the back of the HU as maybe something has gone wrong there although it has nort been touched.

Assuming if laser is faulty would this result it not picking up a gps signal ?

Can you here it making an effort to release it?, could be it got confused, reset with Power Lead at the back of HU or a Battery off for while might be worth a try.  :-\

Did it really say Disk needs Cleaning?, never had that, only ever had Cant Read Disc or something.

For future reference your crimp tool should have a tiny hole next to the hole you use for the outer coax crimp, the small one is to crimp the centre pin.  ;)

Will try disconnecting battery and reconnect after a while.Dont really fancy pulling out the HU at the moment although that course may be necessary if things dont go to plan.

With audio disc in it is making any noise so looks like it is really stuck. When the gps disc was inserted earlier it stayed in for about 20 seconds then popped out.Stayed out for a short while and the unit pulled it back and the cycle started over again.

Screen gave the message disc was dirty and required cleaning,it then pushed the disc out.I have cleaned disc with proper cleaning pads and fluid but still tells me disc is dirty.

Thanks for tip on small center core crimping..good old google advised a small wipe of solder was the best way to secure the center pin so thats what I did and they all did seem quite secure.

Just need to get audio disc out..then maybe HU requires a new laser ? although still doesnt explain why HU wont pick up ant satelites

Absolute worst case you can remove the disc from the Sat Nav slot when its out by removing the top cover, did it once but dont ask me how as it was a good few years back now.

The fact that it was spitting out the Sat Nav Disc before it eat the CD kind points to something not being right. I"ll check one of mine tomorrow if I can remember re the Sat Signal with no Disc but fairly sure the above info is correct.

I seem to remember that it didnt need the disc in to recognise satelite and turn the "green light on" ,but mind is playing tricks with it all now.

So possibly 2 faults ? ::)

Something inside unit is causing navdisc to keep getting pushed out
As not registering signal with aerial lead connected to new gps aerial, maybe a fault at the back of HU with cabling ?

Need to find an expert to have a look at for me now

Have decided to remove HU and have a good look at the connections behind main unit to see if that has become detached.

Might also make up a new lead to run from HU to the SMA connection now on the new gps aerial .What is the connection for the gps on the back of the HU if anybody has picture or could advise.

Anybody advise on the colour of the GPS wording at the top r/h corner without disc inserted please..mine is permant red but unsure if that is just due to aerial leads etc

Once the route is planned you can eject the disc. Believe this feature was primarily for the NCDR1100/1500  and NCDC2011's which didn't have an external CDC drive fitted.

But would the unit pick up gps signal without a disc initially fitted ?

Assume if ( now inserted audio disc) is stuck in the gps disc slot, something internal isnt working ,or is broken ?

The NCDC in mine will pick up the Sat Signal with the Disc out as I suspected, just to make sure, removed disc, switched off HU for 30 mins, and re checked no routes planned, no Disc in, and after a few mins the Sat Signal comes up, also confirmed this with Main + Info showing all the Sat Stations picked up and there Signal Strength readings.
