Just the Tensioner is needed had a new genuine pulley fitted last year, i'm sure mine makes a noise when the engine is cold then goes away had similar issue with another, Shouldn't have bought used. Money was tight at the time...

Why was the tensioner replaced (new or otherwise)? The pulley is the thing that requires renewal, not the tensioner... were the bolts correctly torqued after the cambelt change :-\

This noise LINK turned out to be the tensioner last year which was replaced with a used one from OSP and has been good till recent few months on cold start up with a slight noise which goes away one warm 1-2min. I did also change the pulley but it turned out to be a waste of money but left it on anyway..

Sounds like the pulley rubbing against the cambelt cover :-\

Doesn't make that sound anymore mind, This noise now is hard to describe no where near as bad as that, That was awful...

Just thought i'd try a new tensioner see what that does... I'll try record this current noise before changing though.

That noise did suggest either a loose tensioner assembly or play on the pulley spindle, but from what you saying now, the pulley bearing is likely at fault... simply remove and repack it with a suitable grease, as per Marks little HowTo on the cambelt dvd :y

Tensioners are bombproof, but spindle wear stems from dried bearings getting hot, and is what normally results in seized tensioner pullies/thrown belts :-\

Can't be its around 11 months old genuine pulley from VX, Shocking if it is though... Will check it when i get a chance.

Maybe it would be best to buy a new Tensioner and new Pulley to be on the safe side..

When mine was slightly noisy I just repacked the tensioner pulley with grease as per the how-to and fitted a new belt as the old one was past its best and it was all much quieter. :y :y :y

All this started last year after fitting a new belt from VX, Should have just left the old belt on  ;D

Try some silicon spray on the belt as well. The action of the belt turning in the pulleys makes a slight noise from cold ime.

Thought I had mentioned this but doesn't look like I did, month or so ago I ran the engine from cold had been standing 2 days there about's, let it run for about 15 seconds and it was silent. Least it's not cambelt related.

I did stray some silicon spray on the side of the tensioner with a cloth away from belt and that and it improved the noise to the point it was barely noticeable, But that wore off after a week or so...

It does make the sound more with the A/C on from cold more strain on the belt maybe with that on also, Still makes the sound with the A/C off mind..

Thought it was not a good idea to spray anything on the belt ropeman ?  :-\
