Rear track rods.
« on: 13 August 2014, 16:43:13 »

I'm looking for some info from your good selves as I need four new rear track rods so that I can get the rest of the wheel alignments done. The last set came from AllGermanparts but they are out of stock and I've been let down by another supplier. So has anyone got any ideas apart from VX where I can start looking as I've had no luck so far.

Are the ones you have got sloppy, or merely rusted solid? If the latter, they can usually be freed with heat and patience.

Badly corroded I'm afraid, both cars been turned away by ATS,they spent nearly an hour trying to free them up and in the end they had to give up.Last car I took in last month had a duff bush and so replaced both track rods to save it from an Mot fail in a couple of months time. Not happy to frigg around with s/hand as Omegaspareparts want £35 for a single and I only paid £54 for new Lemforders from Allgerman. :-\

I've just had a delivery of two sets of front track rods and drop links from ATP ...they are good for these and wishbones but unfortunately they don't stock the rears. :(

I wonder is it worth fitting some sort of gator over these before fitting to the car?

Bicycle inner tube or sumat, over a heavily greased track rod?

Needs to breath though or there will be condensation and, more rust.

The front track rods should not seize up in months. Take them off the car, and they will yield, using heat if necessary. Dismantle them, wire brush the threads, and reassemble with copper ease grease. I only discard track rods when the joints are gone, or maybe the gaiters. Buying new is easy, but then your Omega will eat money.

I have a set to go on TBE that's sat in my hallway (bit too much heat applied last time (and brute force when still hot), they said it was unlikely to take more abuse).

From dealer, I'm afraid (due to my current doubts with Lemforder stuff), £90 each :o

Delphi front tre's on mine. No issues so far. Despite their appalling track record with omega wishbones.

Not sure if they do rears, as an after thought. :-\

www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk

Ah yes, I can see a pattern forming, again.

It's quite a familiar pattern, buy aftermarket quality, buy oe quality about 3months later.
