Just found out that you could check with Swansea waht details of your licence they hold for you ie categories & points.

https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

But why is my licence valid from 19th Jan 81 when I past my car test in Aug 79?  ??? ???

Probably thats when you cashed in the provisional and got your full license :y

Probably thats when you cashed in the provisional and got your full license :y

As I then passed my bike test in Nov 80, it might be when they sent me my fully updated licenc:-\ but as above, I passed my car test 2nd Aug 1979 (such a looooong time ago now  ??? )

As I then passed my bike test in Nov 80, it might be when they sent me my fully updated licenc:-\ but as above, I passed my car test 2nd Aug 1979 (such a looooong time ago now  ??? )

Probably dodgy conversion from paper records to electronic as you seem to be older than time itself…  :P ;)


Good details on mine.. never realised I could ride a moped without taking the CBT (according to the the licence checker, anyway), in fact it doesn't say I need a CBT for my bike provisional to be valid, but I'm pretty sure I do..

My licence is valid from 1977. I passed my test in 1977.

Could it be your memory is starting to become hazy as one year becomes the next?....... ;) :). It happens to elderly people.

Definitely not!  ;) Driving test was mentioned during the interview for the Navy, I joined up 7/9/79 and had passed it before hand  :P

I noticed that bit too ....... I never knew that.
