50 litre ok  :-\ Does it have to be oil free or is there a bit of kit that takes the oil out on an oil compressor so you can spray with it   ???

I have a 50 litre. Ok for diy and air tools. But as guys say here if you can get bigger it would be better. Sometimes my compressor struggles to keep up

Spray painting consumes a fair bit of air.

Constant pressure at the gun is a must for a consistent finish.

100 litre + then ideally  :) Any spray painting will be just single panels , then it will just be used for air tools ..impact gun or sander / cutting :-\

This one looks ok linky

Does anyone know what litre the ones from Aldi are ?

150 litre minimum and an oil water seperator on the line plus one simple water seperator at the gun tail :y

ps : correct oil level and oil type is critical

If you're only going to paint panels, then you will get away with a smallish(50litre) compressor and a cheap gun.
Air sanders/grinders/polishers/drills will not work satisfactorily off such a machine, I would consider a 100l tank and 2hp motor to be the absolute minimum for occasional DIY work. Electric tools for these jobs are better to use and cheaper in the long run

also must note, good quality hvlp guns consume serious amount of air when spraying especiall 1.3 tip and higher.. but if you accept a slower job you can use a 0.8 gun with a 50 litre ..

For spraying, you'll need to spend good money to get usable results.

For an impact gun, none of the toy compressors are much cop, better off with a good cordless gun.

The stuff Aldi sell are great for inflating tyres, but not much else.
