Slight missfire on cold startup
« on: 13 October 2014, 10:03:29 »

Hi guys, miggy developed a slight missfire when cold, in cold mornings mostly, until I rew it up two/three times to 2000 rpm. Anyway it's anoying. Sounds like it runs on three pots, took the spark plugs out today - all fine, done only 10.000 on them, no oil in plug wells, no sign of corrosion on plugs or on pistons as far as I could see. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Stan

tomorrow, unplug the MAF sensor when the car is cold and see if that helps.
WARNING!!! this will put the EML light on, so make sure you have a code reader/reset tool or someone who has one to turn the light back off.

I replaced MAF two months ago, and the eml went off after few seconds without any help of code reader.

If you used pattern MAF it could be already at the end of it's rope.. A car as old as yours doesn't need to have codes cleared, I think simtec clears DTC:s when you leave battery disconnected overnight and EML is shown only when some fault is 'present'.

So, I took the kids to the dentist before and miggy showed the same symptoms with hot engine. No eml, no fault code and the missfiring didn't stop as soon as it used to....it seems it's getting worse  >:( :-[

Could cracked coil pack produce this kind of problems maybe? Just guessing now, haven't take a look at it yet.

Was thinking water/condensation draining on to the coil pack from the scuttle rather than plugs and leads :y

To answer your question, the coil pack would be the next place to look...

I had an issue with an " offbeat " idle on a 2.2 and the first 0.5 second when revving up it would miss which turned out to be the coil pack, it was almost imperceptible but I changed it anyway which sorted it.

May I ask what's the price of coil pack? If anyone knows... It's tomorrow's job anyway, it's getting dark here. Thanks Omegod

Last missfire I had on a Vauxhall V6 turned out to be the crank sensor (I had driven through some deep water) but the missfire only showed itself at 3000rpm and over.

On the way from work today I gave miggy a good blast...eml went on at 190km/h , paperclip result is code 0130. Probably connected to missfire I believe but miggy went just fine, no missfire, nothing strange.
