Fault codes for my moany V6!
« on: 04 November 2014, 22:52:28 »

Ok, so an update, as per the thread here:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=126671.90

Here's the codes I got:

21   Throttle pos sensor Voltage high
31    No engine RPM
41    ??
44    02 sensor lean exhaust
37    ???
57    ICV voltage low
129   EGR voltage low

the ICV has been unplugged whilst the engine has been running, if that's the cause of the 'low voltage'?
Fairly sure no engine RPM is standard.

Any ideas what all this could mean?

Ah, apologies, thought everyone on here was familiar sick of the successful steady restoration of my Lady spluttering wonky idle of the mardy cow

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=126671.0

Symptoms-
specifically now the symptoms are high idle slowly dying to approx 900rpm, and steady. (pretty sure normal on a cold V6) but then after a few mins, steadily rising to approx 1300rpm, then hunting from 1300rpm - 1800rpm approx.

Measures takes-
-Two replacement ICVs (one off Missy MV6s, and was in a working car presumably just a few weeks ago, the other cleaned out with carb cleaner, then lubed wih AC90)
-Checked for vac leaks. Changed all (but two) thin vac pipes and main vac hose. Blocking off the main vac hose and makes no difference, so shouldn't be a leak here.
-'Top hat' seal is damaged, new one on order from Vx, plus plenum bridge o-rings which enter the throttle body

(Probable) Next step-
Removing Plenum to check for bad seals there / trapped or split hose underneath.
Replace breather hoses, as some suspect, plus have good spares from Missy MV6

Thanks  :y

No-one got a clue? Had someone suggest unplugging the MAF sensor, just to check it isn't this. But not really able to conclude anything from these fault codes.. any help much appreciated!  :)

Lambda sounds most concerning. The rest "could" be caused by turning on ignition with plenum off. Is that possible?

I have ran my car with plenum off and no CEL but guaranteed those codes are due to having car on with plenum off (and EGR, TPS etc. disconnected).

From cold the car does start at high idle (as you say) and then drops to 900 which even with A/C on is too high, right?

I reckon wipe those codes and recheck. Then if you're left with o2 sensor code investigate that.....

Thanks all.

How would I clear those codes? I think it's just turn the ignition on, wait a few secs, then off, repeat 50 times... it's not tun the engine over is is?

Cats have been off... and a new flange got mig welded on - hoping that's not the cause of it. (though I asked this question at the time, and the general opinion was it'll be fine)

Ahh, no worries.

Also... Mr The Bear - is that short plenum any good, or are you sorted now you've got a long plenum? Not heard from you since before the weekend... I'm either way, as it's suits me fine if I fitted the shiny short plenum with 37k on my V6, replacing the old crusty one... on the other hand it's still there if you want it. Just let us know either way  :y

Oooh, bearing in mind both Cat sections have been off.. could a bad connection / not plugged in properly be the cause of this? I am sure they're both plugged in ok, but I know they were a pain to clip back in... plus there could always be dirt, or something breaking electrical contact. If not then I've got a stuffed cat. Hurray!  :D

Fair enough. Wish you'd said earlier, ah well, no worries, I'll be putting that shiny plenum on my V6 then  ;)

I know mate, it's a bugger. Had a funeral to go to Thursday morning, managed to get to the scrappy in the afternoon (literally the only 3 hr window I had free all week). Really aimed to get DIS pack, leads, both rads, gear lever, leather handbrake lever, as well as some other bits n bobs. In the end got the plenum, and the front suspension strut top mounts, and bonnet struts only. Also a set of really good un-chewed suspension bolts. Worth going, just wish I'd got more.

Be getting in again this weekend, I hope.  :)

Right. Dont want to go all needles in haystacks on you.

but as mentioned in PM....

Is this not a bad fuel pressure regulator? i cant think of any other way that the idle would go higher (although i'm sure there are many reasons).

Wonders what the yodas think?
