Saving Rates?
« on: 26 June 2008, 07:35:11 »

Getting fed up with the Halifax slowing dropping thier rates.

I want to put some money in a savings account and leave it alone.

Also want an account to to put some into and then add some of my income to on a monthly basis.

Neither will be big initial investments, hopefully a £1000 for each.

Any thoughts as to where the best rates are hiding these days.

TIA.

Just had the finacial advisor around yesterday, my plan includes a Cash ISA with egg to start with moving onto a Friendly society plan, Equity ISAs with various companies (will find out for you) and then longer term some manged funds.

For you I guess the cash ISA is the best as it gives you instant access without penalty good return and as its a couple of grans falls in the tax free bracket  :y

That has been me up to now Debs,

Running the Miggy is no big deall to me at the moment as the mileage is negligable.  Tax and insurance is now covered in full for both cars for annother year, and I have to budget for an MOT on the GLS in September, Possible wishbone and defineatly some or all the exhaust from the cat back.  Exhaust is no big deal though as I picked up a nearly Vx system from an accident damaged V6 (so a good bit of forward planning for once)

With the future od Gas and Electric and the increases that have been mentioned. Along with a possible move to a new home this year, once moved I need to settle down and re style my lifestyle.

Gadgets will be put on hold, and new computer gear will have to be funded by selling some of the collection as I dont use it/need it anymore.

The cost of a new suite will have to be aquired during the sales when I move, I think I found a buyer for my current one last night, so will make do and mend till a bargain come along.  A new TV is on hold, but the bonus there is they keep going down in price and technology improves all the time.

All this due to the thought of lighting and heating the house, currently pay £75 a month for the pair.  So £900 P.A.  They reckon a gain of 46% so nearly an extra £450 has to be found.  That is also with out the extra cost of running the Miggy, which fortunely as I said.  I used to do about 500 miles a monthrising to 1000 miles a month in the really good weather. I now only do 2500/3000 PA.  So quite a saving  made allready.

I am just glad I dont smoke or drink, with the thought of moving (they reckon one of life's biggest stresses) as I would be going through a few quid extra as time trundles along.

Dont like the thought of having to tighten the financial belt, but needs must.   Sodding Government certainly dont help.

Egg offering 7.05% instant access for first 12months at the moment, on-line a/c management. Don't forget to review in 12 months time as rate will revert to normal.

I've got a savings plan with work, which is run by my bank, so "hopefuly" safer than the compnay holding the money...

Basicly £100 a month goes from my wages to a bank account in my name which I can close or withdraw from at any time (though this closes the agreement) and after 3 years I have the option of

a) My cash back plus interest
b) I can buy shares in my company at the price they where in November 2007
c) Any mix of the above

Hopefuly the share prices will fly up :)

If not I just have a few grand saved up that otherwise I would of spent on beer women & cars... the rest I would of wasted

I cant commit anything long term to savings till I move.  I could do with something like this long term, but wondering if I can move it arround afterwards (savings that is)  Down side it is for 12 months and probably has more small print than they let on.

Halifax Regular Saver

UK annual rates from 9th June 2008

AER 10.00%
Gross p.a.  10.00%
Net p.a.   8.00%
All Balances

Rest of thier rates are shocking, so it makes me suss of this one.
