manual transmission models

I really liked the omega in manual form.. however getrag 240 have longer 2nd and 3rd ratios  even with 3.90 diff..


after some search and questions to bmw mechanics I learned that the 2nd and 3rd gears can not be changed alone..  :-\


so I'm planning a change.. these are candidates for a swap

also some of those boxes stays a bit tilted and cross  member and arms may need to be modified


so whats your opinion ?

With the getrag 250 or the ZF, fuel economy would suffer badly at motorway speeds. A 1:1 ratio in top gear would mean you'd be thrashing it at high speeds. On the other hand, if you plan to drag race your omega..... ;D

when I see you answered to the thread I could guess what kind of  answer I will have ;D


2nd and 3rd gear ratios are really desperate so must change..


however,  if I buy getrag 250 I still hope I can play with the 5th gear :-\

I would swap the internals with those from the Getrag 260... the reason being that it achieves what you're looking for with 2nd and 3rd but leaves 5th as an over drive. Without this, your fuel economy on a run will sky rocket and after five minutes on a motorway you'll also be deaf...

Try driving your car at motorway speeds in fourth if you're not convinced :y

I wouldn't listen to them. One of their employees told you yesterday that the diesel auto was better than the manual but you wouldn't listen.  ;) :-X

I wouldn't listen to them. One of their employees told you yesterday that the diesel auto was better than the manual but you wouldn't listen.  ;) :-X


as I said there is no matching manual box.. if it will be, we will talk that..

I've only had the displeasure of driving 2 Manual Omega's.  One was a 2.0 GLS and the gear change was akin to playing Cricket on the Wii.  The second was a properly sorted 3.0 MV6 and it was fun, but the gear change was the same.

It's a lardy arsed car, built for cruising, not for hooning.

And if you have played Cricket on the Wii, you have certainly broken some furniture, knocked glasses off the table, shattered some windows and generally made yourself look like a complete cock..... Much like throwing the gear lever somewhere near where you think the gear is, missing it, knocking the magic tree off the rear view mirror, punching the windscreen so it breaks and your mates laughing at you because you selected reverse instead of third!.

Exaggerating I may be, but that GM box is blooody awful!

How right you are.

That's why I got out of Omega ownership.  I can only afford the one car, and needed something that would sit in the middle.  I have 90% of the comfort of an Omega (if anything, the seats are more comfortable, but it's a newer car) but it has rock hard suspension.  It goes like a stabbed rat, gives me good economy...... I just wished I picked up in the Saab long ago.  Dare I say it, more car for the money.
