You boys are so nice about my wheels. I know I could only aspire to omega ownership, and all the stuff that brings with it but, for now, I'll make do with just arriving at my destination without drama and not spending all of my money on repairs. ;D
You mean the need for a bottomless wallet just to put fuel in?  ;D
If you are able to fuel an omega you are lucky. It means it's actually running  :y
Yes but consider the warm and cosy feeling that this produces inside ;D

Ok, pensions was a bad example, but my point was that there's nothing preventing the free movement of people within the EU, and nothing to stop those people from expecting the same state support regardless of where they are.

Trouble is the eastern europeans here for welfare know the system better than the system knows itself. It's a messed up world, but changing it will mess it up more :-\

Here is a thing that no one in Britain has cottoned on to including Cameron and his coalition.

Spain demands and expects under law , that immigrants show they have the means of supporting themselves. An expat forum I frequent has succeded in bringing this to the attention of BBC radio4 for an upcoming programme.

My question to cameron would be as follows:-

If Spain(Eu country) can do this why doesn't Britain(EU country) do it? very simple question Could it be it suits the Uk governemnt to have all and sundry in order to reduce wages year on year as has happened. If so they misjudged the slump in tax take big time but kept their cronies raking in the money.

As I understand it, with a pension, and within reason, once retired/over 65 you can move anywhere in the world...

Certainly, in the States, your income must cover all living costs including housing, food, transport and medical costs plus change :-\

Not at all unreasonable imho ;)

No in Spain , it is for people below retirement age. So much in the bank or a regular monthly income. I can't remember the figures being an oligarch equivalent. It doesn't include people who were here before a certain date and under retiremnt age. In other words a recent inititaitive.

I'm pretty sure they are aware of this situation in downing street, Varche, but it obviously suits them not to implement it here. If we did, I'm pretty sure it would be challenged in the European court of umin rights., so I can't see why no potential immigrant to Spain hasn't challenged it.

I rest my case STMO. It suits Downing Street not tonothing to do with European Human Rights as no one in Spain has taken it up with ECHR to my knowledge- it is just an accepted fact. So all their bluster about immigration is just a nonsense.

Medical costs in USA & Oz could be prohibitive for some pensioners & I'm not so sure visas for there are that easy to get.

I meant that the concept was not unreasonable...  ;) Medicare in the US can cost upwards of $800 a month, so clearly must be factored in. But with a clear mortgage and a half decent pension pot, retiring abroad needn't be prohibitive :y

My mate in Houston's neighbours, a healthy, non smoking couple of about 60 with no history of ill health, pay $3500 per month health insurance for the pair of them.  :o :o :o

I had a quick rummage at shipping mother to Florida a while back, could well vary state to state :-\

Certainly emigrating is a lot more straight forward if you don't require a job/work permit...
