Thank you to Mr DTM
« on: 04 January 2015, 10:35:07 »

The Silver Bullet rides again :D

Following a long day - I arrived just before 9am, and we finally finished just after 8pm, Marks DTM Calib changed the passenger side HG again on the 1998 3.0l powered Silver Bullet in order to cure its incontinence issues, a mission that appears to have been successful - it needed 2 coolant stops, as well as initial refill to get it to Nottingham, only one coolant stop on way home, less than a mile from Marks DTM's home, as we hadn't the time to bleed it.

In addition, he resolved the manifold gasket blow on the drivers bank (unusual, as this already had MLS manifold gaskets from the previous HG changes).

I was like a child on Xmas morning driving home, grinning like a naughty boy.

So, a very big thankyou to Marks DTM Calib for writing off his Saturday, and his help and hard work, without which, I fear the Bullet would be down the scrapyard.

Thanks.

I did detect reminents of old pulleys and tensioners in the garage. Hope he put the right buggers back on ;D

No you know that 3.0 v6s of a certain vintage require HGs as a service item, you can keep it going indefinitely,  which solves the 'What do I replace it with' dilema nicely  8)

Good job well done :y

How long is a piece of string.....
Could last 50 yrs and do 10 k
Or do 80k in 1 year
Could last forever and it is also down to how well coolant system is maintained.

There's a production year of 3.0 v6 engines which are prone to HG failure, typically around the rear/outside corner of the 246 head ;)

'98-'99 iirc :-\
