A test?  There is one, a Cycling Proficiency Test.  I'm sure we have all done one.

Much like a Forklift license.  Prove you can safely drive the thing, and you get a ticket.

It's not a recognised license though, and there is no license to ride a pushbike on the public roads.  And there we have the problem.  I would imagine most Peddle Pushers have a driving license, so they know the rules of the road.  They know that running a red light in a car will result in prosecution.  What they also know is, running a red light on their bicycle will be fine...... there are no plates, no ability to recognise them and issue such a fine.

They are bound by the same laws so why does a Motorcycle/car/bus/lorry require an individual and unique license plate, yet a bicycle can go unrecognised.

Boils my piss.

Everyone. Had a customer of mine come in for a new rear screen in her car. A cyclist forgot to brake and went head first through the back window.

Only way you'd be able to run them over round here is by driving on the pavement! That's where the vast majority ride and hurl abuse at pedestrians who may happen to get in their way, which is easy to do as none of them carry any kind of warning device[bell, horn etc.]to let you know they're closing in behind you!

Yes yes yes. This talk is all very well but are we up for direct action or not? Piccies will be needed as proof of any kills or, even better, a video.
The future of out economy is in your hands. If a cyclist is holding up traffic, just aim, close your eyes and think of your children.

Well, all these people taken to their bicycles having been inspired to don the lycra by the likes of Wiggins and Froom, have lessened demand for oil which has resulted in the lower fuel prices we are enjoying!  :y

Get on yer bikes lads, I'll still be in my nice warm comfy Omega though!  ;D

That wasn't meant as a directed comment ;) Royal you and all that...

I never did cycling proficiency, and as a result ride as though I am a car. That way, if some wants to overtake, then they have to actually consider the manoeuvre rather than trying to squeeze past... equally I won't ride on pavements or through red lights, and if I am in traffic, I stay in traffic... suffice to say, I tend to drive most places :-X

I did, aged about 12/13 got 99% only loosing a point because I called a staggered junction a jaggered junction........... :( :(

However, I do understand your point. As a driver, IAM and with a full Motorcycle, HGV and PSV licence, I feel, as a car driver, that I understand 'others'  needs for space, as an example and try to drive with this in mind at all times............. :y :y

Funnily enough, it was a coach driver at school who taught me the concept, and it always stuck :y

Usual anti cyclist rants. Nothing to see here. <terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired!> ::)

So, we want the government to impose testing, licensing, number plates, insurance and excise duty on a zero emissions, healthy option method of transport they have been trying to promote for years, in the run up to an election. Good luck with that one. Actually, give mr. Farage a call. You never know. :D
