Police hunt..
« on: 30 June 2008, 18:55:25 »

Had a right paranoid attack today! Drove the 13 miles to Hereford to get a jack and axle tand. Well on the way I enjoyed the sun and the benefit of the 3.0 V6. Probably got a bit carried away on the short duel carriage way. Anyway... a sound about the car... look up and it a police helicopter which seemed to be following me!! Went into halford and hid in the air filter section!! How daft!! I thought they were going to storm halfords and arrest me for getting a bit excited on the carriage way. far too many night shifts me thinks!  ;D

They have aircraft traffic enforcement around here!

Basically if the police plane is up for something, they follow a main road 'home' and check for whatever  >:(

Don't know of anyone actually being done by them though  :-?

It's scary, I was once travelling home from Doncaster on an open stretch of road from Bawtry to Tickhill at 3 am.

Next thing there was a big floodlight in the sky, facinated with it I slowed down to arround 35mph to watch it, the next thing is I was the target.  Surrounded in the spotlight, them things is brighter than any headlamp bulb I have ever seen.  Sodding thing followed me all the way into tickhill and peeled off.

Daft thing is there were 4 kids on bikes with balaclava's on pulling wheelie's, the paper that week said there had been a break in at an old folks home (where the chopper picked up on me)  glad I phoned the cops when I saw the kids, hope they were caught if they were the culprits.

Annother wierd thing as well.

Bought a Radar Detector. getting used to it on the crossings, forecourts and stuff, going off for different reasons.

Then one day it went off for no reason, then a paramedic car went past and the alarm stopped.  Reckoned it to be the Paramedic, then had it confirmed when it happened again about a month later.

About a year ago, driving along, use the road very often, no traffic arround, the detector goes off.  With a different warning this time.

What set it off?

Unit is not a GPS type.

I remember one night as an observer (passenger seat) in a police patrol car (jam sandwich not a panda) ... pootling along (as you do) ..... Driver starts getting all fidgetty and keeps looking in the rear view.

When asked what was wrong he says " Bloody hell .. there's a police car following us !!".  "Silly sod", ( or words to that effect) says I, "You are in a police car!!!"

So -- paranoia is everywhere !!!  :o

BTW -- Ambos in them days were fitted with transducers which triggered certain traffic lights to go in their favour on approach --- don't think it was a common thing -- just being piloted in that area at the time --- maybe that's what pinged your detector skruntie.

When I finally worked it out it was the Police Helicopter directly above my car following the road and then veering off to Sheffield Airport.
