Weird Automatic Problems
« on: 28 January 2015, 23:25:10 »

I've been having a few issues with the auto on my 3.0 Omega.

While driving at certain speeds, if I come off the accelerator and then put my foot back on it, even if I wait a while or do it gently, the gearbox changes down 2 gears and then realises I didn't want to change gear and changes back up.

All the time I keep my foot on the accelerator, it's fine.

At 70mph, it's fine, 50-60 it does it all the time (country road driving).

And it is getting worst.

I have done a gearbox fluid change and cleaned the filter (oil smelt burnt) but hasn't had any effect.

I'm guessing it's the AR35 box as it's a 3.0?

Was the level correct when you refilled it? Engine must be running and box upto temp with the car level to check it properly...

Yes, Level was ok, before I changed it and after.

Weird not having a dipstick to do it by..

Could be a failing shift solenoid then... would need a tech 2 session to check everything is working as expected :-\ but 95% of autobox issues are down to fluid level/quality...

A mechanic's suggested it could be the pump not being able to maintain pressure causing the change down.

:(

Looks like replace or re-con it's gona have to be.

Carl,

Thats normally a sign the fluids not been changed for a very long time , obviously not good .. mite be worth unplugging ecu for a while then try again . Any shiny metal filings found ?

Search on here for autobox problems :y

Possibilities are:

Incorrect fluid level.
Incorrect fluid type.
Thrust washer wear/damage.
Solenoid failure.
Selector switch water/dirt ingress.
Incorrect fluid level.

Are you getting an auto box warning on the MID?

If the box ever ends up in a gear other than the one the electronics has commanded it to be in, you will get a fault reported by the ECU and it'll probably go into limp mode.

Did do a search, nothing similar came up.

No Warning message on the GID

While it started doing it, thought it might have been something to do with kick down..

Could try unplugging the kickdown switch and see if the symptoms go away :-\
