ish!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't sound like the oil cooler to me unless you have a load of brown sludge in the coolant.

Mayo is normal when the car is used mainly for short journeys.

Coolant bottle looks fine & nothing on the dip stick except oil, just wondering why its using coolant it the first time I've had to top it up for a while

Hbv or radiator drain plug are the two obvious choices...

Also check both thermoswitches on the passenger side end of the radiator and both the tops of the end tanks for evidence of coolant staining.

If that all checks out, then you're into pressure testing with the inlet manifold out to look for oil cooler plate/coolant bridge leaks :y

Another q... any smell of coolant in the cabin? Wetness under the drivers foot mat? Both could be the beginning of a heater matrix leak :-\

As you've just noticed it.....

Top up coolant. Monitor amount of loss. Pressure test if this becomes a concern.

Mayo on filler cap.....short journeys and cold weather. Nowt to be concerned about.

Thanks Guys, I'II keep an eye on the coolant level.
I was just surprised that the car needed coolant, the bottle only had about quarter in it, that's probably the first time I've had to add coolant for a long time so was just surprised it needed so much.

I had a leak which I could no detect until I ran the car and looked under the front of car and there was a tiny leak from the base of the radiator New rad and no more loss of coolant

Mine's been doing the same lately. The windscreen did develop a habit of fogging up immediately after a warm start, too, which made me dread that the heater matrix has gone. No sign of a leak, though, and I've since been running it with the air con off, and the windscreen doesn't fog up. I suspect hope the condensate isn't draining away for some reason, and the coolant leak is elsewhere.
