Rusty  Nuts.....

.....no, not the Country and Western singer. ;D

`Been trying to get the wheel nuts off the Landy today; years of rust, combined with (probably) having been put on with an air-impact wrench meant I broke (burst) two 27mm. 'quality' sockets and bent a 1/2" drive tommy-bar....and still those blinkin`nuts wouldn`t budge. :o

I called for the heavy-duty cavalry in the form of a neighbour with a 'monster' 1" drive socket set....that, combined with an 8ft. scaffolding pipe tommy-bar "helper"  ::) eventually 'ripped' all the nuts free with what can best be described as a mini-explosion ;)

I had no idea nuts could be THAT tight; and yet come undone (eventually) without damage! :o

Impact driver sorted it in the end would probably have done the trick.

I wasted god knows how many sockets and breaker bars on about three nuts that were on solid. Aforementioned tool did the trick.

I just hope your wheels weren't rusted to the rotors!!!

I find pouring some coke (the drink not powder) over rusty nuts and leaving for about 30 mins normally sorts them out and works more often than WD40.
