...the more it disgusts me. Just been watching the news report about the animal cruelty in a Thirsk abbatoir. Apart from showing the hateful behaviour of the slaughtermen, it talked about the practice of killing animals with a quick slit of the throat. No stunning of the unfortunate beast is allowed under the halal code. The fickin halal code? Wtf has killing an animal got to do with religion?
In a modern world where so many advances have been made, what place does a medieval practice such as religion hold? I am totally bemused by people who follow blindly, without question, something which is so obviously just....untrue.
We are a very stupid and gullible and, most of all, insecure race.
Sorry if I offend anyone, but religion offends me.

I wasn't commenting on any particular religion, Steve, it's all crap to me. Although that particular brand of it does seem to bring out the very worst in people.

In that case it'd definitely be a stun gun for me then!    ...... and if I did find myself at the 'Pearly Gates' I'd just have to apologise and I'm sure whichever God was on duty at the time would be OK with that.    They're supposed to be forgiving and merciful aren't they?

I saw that. I have always suspected that folk working in any abbatoir become inured to the daily killing and slip into uncaring or brutal ways.

I have butchered my own livestock and every single one wasn't easy. We culled 11 pheasants for the freezer and by the last one I had had enough. having said that, I still stand by everyone that eats meat ought to have killed and prepared one example themselves first e.g. a rabbit.

On the Halal subject , on a recent visit to the Uk I was very surprised at how much stuff in the supermarkets is Halal despite not having an obvious market (rural Scotland, Scarborough). Which governemnt minister let that through?
