air bed puncture
« on: 24 February 2015, 20:33:06 »

It's a kiddies airbed that has its own cover/sleeping bag.

Any suggestions on a repair? Trouble is, the hole is right on the edge of where it's been heat welded together so a patch isn't going to  work.
I'm tempted to give it a dab with a hot soldering iron but I can envisage burning a hole right the way through. Or even maybe a dab of Tigerseal over the hole?

TIA  :-\ :-\

If you can't repair it as is, try making the hole even bigger and giving yourself something to work with.

but as said, the hardest bit is that it's on the edge of where the 'weld' is  :-\

TBH, I don't think much is going to work under those conditions. Awkward repair, quite high pressure and a fidgety kid wriggling around on it.

Agreed.  :( It's used for my niece's little lad. The family don't seem to be able to visit us without breaking something  ;D ;D

I repaired ours by using some tent seam sealer goo, can't remember the exact stuff, think it came with the tent. I cleaned the area and made sure it was dry, added a bit of sealer to the hole with the bed deflated and then when it  stated to go off I put a piece of fabric tape over it, the tape I used is almost air tight as it is anyway. I then ended up effectively with a flexible rubbery patch with the sealant fixing the hole and the tape protecting and giving strength to the sealant. Been fine for the last 4 years.
Of you can wait till next week I can post you some of the tape, it's green but it's very good stuff.

Is it that vinyl cloth Andy? I know they patch truck curtains with offcuts of the same and a hot air paint stripper to melt the plastic then a small metal roller to fuse the two pieces together.
