Yes, I've seen a fair few shagged Alarm ECUs across a range of Vauxhalls now where a certain dodgy code reader had previously been used to program a new fob.  I've seen a fair few shagged NCDC units as well, when people try to play with them.

Whether or not it inflicts the non-Chinese illegal copies, I don't know, as I don't know anyone who has the official one. Certainly if you had the official one, you'd likely have some comeback.

Its a reasonable tool for code reading and live data - its downsides in this respect is it won't touch many ECUs, and the live data updates are too slow (and the interface is a bit crap).

On the upside, I make decent money off those who have been stupid enough to program with it, esp those who shag their immobilisers, and want me to travel to them.

The reason why we do not allow discussion of the cloned devices is because the manufacturer of the genuine device has been quite successful in shutting down sites promoting the use of the cloned ones, and at the time, I was already dealing with threats from another set of solicitors over some of my web content, and couldn't afford more grief.

Sorry to butt in  :) what is the cheapest and most reliable way to obtain a spare key for facelift ? Is it a dealer only option ?

Obtain a fob (£35 odd unprogrammed a while ago but probably gone up since, from vx are best quality, or eBay are cheaper but the buttons are really stiff on some and quality generally is poor) and a blade.

Get TB or one of the tech 2 guys on here to programme it.

Glue the transponder in is a tip (iirc)

Get your local key cutter to cut it to the existing key.

Job jobbed.

Vx wanted £95 last I looked a few years ago and I bet that's gone up since. So should be able to do the job for half that.

EDIT TO ADD
tech 2 will need car pass details to complete programming. If you don't have those numbers get them from vx with the key fob and blade. Can't remember the fee :(

Thanks for that , I will have a look about , mine is one with three buttons on the key . I hate having one key as the alarm has started whining for no reason i now lock car by opening back door and pressing drivers button down as suggested on here , with keys on roof of car so I dont lock the buggers in  ;D

Would that be the power sounder ? (Siren, remove from scuttle drivers side asap)

Or the horn? Likely to be a genuine alarm trip, iirc, so needs tech 2 to see which sensor. Banner switch quite common if it's on the pas side on yours...?

If the alarm is whining for no reason it could be the siren is starting to fail (powersounder) it is located under the scuttle on the drivers side.... a lot of people remove them from the circuit as they have a tendency to burst into flames or at least smoulder for a while first... the only problem with doing this is that it is part of a Thatcham Cat1 alarm as installed by Vx at the time of manufacture and removing it could invalidate your insurance :)

I replaced mine...

the hazards flash as well when this happens , I disconnected the bonnet switch but it still did it so I lock it by method previous said.
Key on ebay I bid on with uncut blank so hopefully I can get someone in Suffolk area to tech 2 it otherwise it will be off to Bury St Edmunds to main dealers , they have quoted about £70.00.
