So only 5 people currently interested?

Is it worth it?

For those of us who have never been, what is it?

Camping weekend fiddling with omegas?

I have our old trailer tent in the garage....but it has not been used for ten years at least. We are booked here in Wareham from the sixth, so theoretically we could do Newent, then come here. Love the social side of our meets. However, if it was windy, me and swmbo may end up looking at the stars. Swmbo in night gear is  a sight worth beholding.
When we get back, I will assess the trailer tent...although thinking about it, my kids may have a tent.....
If it goes ahead TB, I may have to book private...but be assured...I will do my best.

I'm afraid just 5 "maybes" doesn't really warrant the time and effort that Mrs TB would have to put in to organise it.

I'll leave voting open for another few days, but if there is that little interest....

Two differant questions here imo.

Do you/I want to go camping? Personally, No! I opposing don't.

Do you/I want go to a car meet play cars talk bollards over meal and some beer...?  Personally...To right. Let's go. :y

But then this is Newent and it's a camping gig.

An alternative to camping :-\

http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/lodges/ford-farm-lodges-forf?adult=2&nights=3&start=4-9-2015...

For example ;)
Having a not dissimilar PM conversation with someone else, but in reality the costs are prohibitive.

The thing with camping is its relatively cheap (usually £15-£20 per night for the pitch, with bring your own cheap food and drink). And in the case of Newent, a very good site with an owner having no real issue with groups or working on cars.

But that doesn't mean it has to be camping/caravanning.

Even those impossible-to-find £19 a night Premier Inns would involve a £10 per head per meal food and £4 per drink drinks.  Although I'm up for that of course, but would it would be expensive, esp for those bringing family along. Before getting into policies with dogs, yada yada yada.

Chrisgixer makes a valid point above - is the issue with the meet, the camping element, or something else. So lets throw that open for discussion.  I know chrisgixer particularly hates camping, which I can fully understand, even if I don't necessarily agree with.

If it's a camping issue, then not much to do apart from it costing more :-\ In which case, would people be prepared to share accommodation ie a large gite/farmhouse or similar :-\

The lodge idea, whilst being relatively expensive does at least give people some privacy/independence,  but would really require a provisional booking for 12-18 months time in order to get a block booking...

That said, if the cost is going to limit numbers, then is that acceptable and what possibilities does that offer? A week or so in French France or upto Scotland/avoiding school holidays or not :-\

We all travel a fair way for getting to various meets/curries etc, so if it is to be a bit longer/more expensive, then make the journey part of it, that way it's more of a bunch of mates and their cars sharing an adventure rather than merely spending a weekend camping in a field (all be it a very nice field) and possibly doing some car bits whilst there...

If that makes any sense at all :-\
