Using oil that's to heavy in a car recommended to use a 5w/30 can cause sludge issues.

and In the end causes the timing chain to snap :y

At the garage we use 5w30 semi and 5w30 full fat. Semi goes in old cars and shite boxes, fully goes in nice cars. Simplez  ;D
Fully sympathetic would be better in higher mileage cars as it holds its viscosity,better than semi.

Nope. Fully is thinner. From the outset. Another reason why 10w40 is better on higher mileage cars...for omegas. Certainly.

fully syn 5w30 no thinner than 5w30 semi, and as said fully synth will maintain its viscosity better (longer) than a semi.  bad practice to use a thicker oil than manufacturers original spec.

Of the same grade, yes.

But GM fully and GM semi are not the same grade.

I was talking about that, not tother.
