AR25 Failing Symptoms
« on: 16 May 2015, 16:38:22 »

Can anyone advise on what the symptoms would be?  I only have information via a phone call from my friend who has been using my car but he said the car had a very slight loss of drive and slow to pick up and the digital display was showing 'automatic gearbox'

Could just be low fluid. Fluid quality gives a thumping or banging engaging gear. Or when changing gear.

Failure = Usually excess flair (high revs) with no drive, incorrect gear, or incorrect gear ratio codes. Usually as it can't find a gear. Ime

Ok thanks Chris, was contemplating a fluid and filter change to get me buy until an AR35 comes up.

Are the filters a Vx part only?

Jpat as in the link in parts section.

But I never bothered, just wash the filter out. Paraffin or brake cleaner. There will be nout in it anyway, or if there is, the box really is buggered.... Unless it's thrust washer of course. It won't catch sediment as that's for the magnet in the sump. Save your money:y

I have just taken the car out for a little drive and I didn't really make it that far, the car shudders on pull away and really struggles to put the power down while the revs climb. It's almost like the clutch is slipping?

I've never owned an auto before so it's all new to me  :-[

Could it be a failing clutch? There doesn't appear to be the usual telltale signs of clutch smelling... Help!

Check the fluid level before going ANY further. But it doesn't sound good tbh.

Ok thanks Chris & Gary, not overly concerned as I think I have an AR35 in the pipe line but would be nice not to be swapping boxes just yet!

Fluid check & top up first thing tomorrow

Well... I cracked the filler off the box and out came a gushing of watery, brown, stinking liquid!  Looked like cold coffee pouring out!

So, undid the 16x 10mm and drained the remaining fluids out... Also removed the smaller sump and drained that too.  The magnet in the larger sump was covered in so much grey goo and sludge it hardly looked like a magnet!  Tanks are at my mates garage getting a good clean in their parts washer and parts have been ordered from Jpat to rebuild the sumps.

Have also just bought an AR35 from SJC on here, as I'm sure this mini service may not fix its issues utimately and any future remap will make the AR25 panic lol... Just need the car roadworthy so i can take the estate off the road and give that some tlc
