Gearbox swap... AR25 to AR35
« on: 28 May 2015, 19:45:44 »

Has anyone done this swap recently? Is the guide up-to-date and easy to follow?

Going to be doing the swap in my mates garage and I can do without any niggles! So i need to make sure i have all the necessery parts required otherwise he'll have a non-mobile Omega in the way and i won't be very popular!!

Any hints or tips? Jpat dont sell the brass thrust washer any more as mentioned in the guide.

Do you need the washer for the AR35?

Tips. The boxes are heavy and have potential to injure if you aren't careful. Two strong blokes shouldn't be a problem.

Make sure you have disconnected the wiring loom from the box. There are several connectors mounted unhelpfully above from memory.

I have no idea if i need the washer or not, just thought i should have one 'just in case'

Myself and another burley mate will be using a gearbox cradle so shouldn't be too bad....

My only issue is that the 'Guide' doesn't seem to indepth and more of an overview?

Is the gearbox you are putting in a known working good entity?

I believe the gearbox I have just bought came from a V6, so is it just the Bell housing I need to swap? What talk converter should I use? The one from the V6, the AR25 or the 35?

The TC is very dependant on the engine, so it must match the engine you are fitting to.

You need to keep the TD torque converter then. :y

Yes that's it, keep the torque converter and bell housing then fit the AR35.

You MUST make sure you unbolt the torque converter from the flex pate BEFORE removing the gearbox and when refitting ensure the torque converter is fitted to the new box and fully seated before offering the box back up to the engine.

Brilliant info Mark, thank you! Is there anything I should be concerned about with the torque converter? Anything serviceable on it?
