I asked the question, because all my computers came with Windows on, but only one, the main one, has had a notification.
I did not know whether it went like only one to an account.

Another stupid question...I have a windows phone with 8 on it...will that upgrade, or is that a totally separate issue.
Sorry for lack of knowledge :-[

Should do, if its full 8 and subject to Hardware again, have you tried updating the phone to 8.1?

From the MS Website:- SKU Map

The chart below describes which version of Windows 10 will be installed for the free upgrade from the originating Windows 7 or Windows 8 edition. The feature list for Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro will be available on windows.com prior to upgrade.

Windows 7*

From Edition                          To Edition

Windows 7 Starter                 Windows 10 Home
Windows 7 Home Basic          Windows 10 Home
Windows 7 Home Premium     Windows 10 Home

Windows 7 Professional         Windows 10 Pro
Windows 7 Ultimate              Windows 10 Pro

Windows 8**

From Edition                          To Edition

Windows 8.1***                     Windows 10 Home

Windows 8.1 Pro                    Windows 10 Pro

**Must be running the latest version of Windows 8 (Windows 8.1 Update) to receive the free upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update.

*** Also applies to Windows 8.1 country specific editions, Windows 8.1 Single Language, Windows 8.1 with Bing.

****The availability of Windows 10 upgrade for Windows Phone 8.1 devices may vary by OEM, mobile operator or carrier.

“N” and “KN” editions follow the upgrade path of the parent edition (e.g. Windows 7 Professional N upgrades to Windows 10 Pro).

Personally, assuming you have enough Disk Space kicking around, I would backup / clone your existing OS Drive(s) and run with a Dual Boot for a while until you feel comfortable with it.

How I read it Rob is, ...If you have another disk large enough to clone your existing disk onto, you can do this using a small piece of software. I have it, but at the moment can't think of its name.
So you now have two identical disks.
When the time comes....update one, leave the other as is. When you boot up after the update, you will then have the choice of booting into the new upgraded drive, or the 'cloned' original one. That's called dual boot.
Sometimes the computer does not recognise a second drive to boot, so I use a piece of software called EasyBCD which 'installs' the drives in the Disk Manager, and you can then name which disk you want as default boot, and which one as secondary.
I have this now, and on boot up, I have two choices....if I don't press the down arrow to pick the secondary disk, the computer automatically boots to the default disk you have set.
I hope that makes sense, mate, after all that typing ;D

Anybody want to remove it.
http://www.howtogeek.com/218856/how-do-you-disable-the-get-windows-10-icon-shown-in-the-notification-tray/
Why would you want to disable it? You have to register your interest, or nowt will happen. Once you do register your interest, you will receive an email with all the FAQs. You can decide not to go ahead if you don't want to.
What's not to want? If you haven't got a compatible device, you won't get the icon. And you must have windows update enabled.
Rollout from July 29th.

You girls make such a fuss over nothing. ;D

Anyone running Windows Media Center will lose that during the upgrade.

Oddly no silly notifications for me. Advantage of WSUS :D.

The upgrade will be free to all existing Windows users for the first year.  TBH, if your PC came with Win7, its probably due a trip to landfill, so don't get too creamed up over this "free" upgrade

For those who think that once they have it, they will have to part with money 12 months later....not true

'The upgrade will only be free in the first 12 months after release and will last for the "supported lifetime of the device." Microsoft said the new OS will run on PCs, tablets, phones, and a new device to be announced later today'  :y.

This upgrade/reservation process is for PCs and tablets only. For most Windows 8.1 Phone devices, the Windows 10 upgrade will be made available through the OEM, mobile operator or carrier. Stay tuned for more information later this year.
