Any good ? Will it undo wheel nuts

My Clarke badged Chinese one is claimed 450Nm, but will struggle with wheelbolts that haven't been touched for a few weeks, or that have ben done up with windy guns.

So a cheap Chinese tat one claiming 300Nm?


You can take my answer as "unlikely"

Any idea what the highest Nm is available at a reasonable price and what features to look for , its mainly for wheel bolt removal and maybe the odd exhaust clamp .

I'd agree with that, and would question the quality/power/durability of the batteries too.

My DeWalt claims 200Nm, but is more powerful than my Clarke claiming 450Nm.

I think, to be blunt, avoid the cheap, unbranded (or rebadged Chinese like Clarke, Sealey etc) tat

Do you already have any cordless tools? If so check that range has an impact wrench available. For instance, the Ryobi One+ will loosen correctly tightened wheel nuts(even though it claims over 200Nm) and there are loads of other tools, like an angle grinder which is probably better for exhaust clamps.


The real use of the lower capacity impact wrenches is not to loosen tight bolts, but more for time saving moving large bolts as found in suspensions etc.


A long, flex-head 1/2" drive ratchet like Sealey's AK6698 is MUCH better value than a cheapo cordless impact wrench

I have a rather strange impact gun, works well enough, switch it on and it spins like mad and then suddenly locks, with quite a bang, and hey presto, nut undone..........

The cheaper ones are ideal as a time saver, I tore the front end off a breaker in about two hours, wheel nuts one cracked are plenty doable and to be fair they should be torqued up by hand anyway.

Just to check - is that will or will not (because 'will' seems contrary to 'even though it..')?  I'd been looking at the One+ stuff to replace some of the Wickes cordless tools I've got; because Wickes stopped making them after I'd bought two of the whole set  (Note to self: Buy them all at once next time!)

Aaron, that should have read "will just loosen correctly tightened wheel nuts". It's a decent tool, as are most of the rest of the range. B&Q often have the drill with 2batteries for about £100 which is a good start, the anglegrinder is really handy for little jobs, and the vac is good for quick mini-valets. I bought the circular saw, angle drill, lamp and a bunch of batteries for £40 a few months ago but can't comment on their effectiveness.

The 4amp battery makes a big improvement, especially to the grinder.

Gotcha - thanks Nick 

The angle grinder was what attracted me in the first instance, windy gun could be handy (I have the big air gun for wheel bolts etc anyway) and my Wickes circular saw is a bit lacking in oomph.  Angle drill always handy, too..

Might invest next month then, thanks!
