Further financial shite
« on: 19 June 2015, 19:42:41 »

Just had an email from my credit card company informing me that, later this year, they will be joining up with Apple pay. You can use your gayphone or gaypad to pay for stuff.
Why?
Oh yeah, it will save me having to remember four digits, and save me the hassle of actually putting my card in that bothersome terminal...I mean...all that hassle can cost you up to fifteen seconds.
Sheesh.....

Well...maybe that's appealing to the younger generation, but not to me. How do you keep track of what you're spending?
I went into McDonald's the other week and did a NFC payment cause it was under twenty quid. I didn't even get a receipt.

Hang on, I'm talking nonsense. Not a NFC payment, that's phone. I mean a payment with my credit card by 'showing' it to the terminal.

Money is expensive. To make, use, store and move. Notes don't last long either, which is why we end up with coins of larger denominations. It's unlikely to be long before we get a £5 coin.

Far simpler than that ... money is untraceable, unaccountable, unquantifiable ....  use a card, debit or credit, and the "system" knows where and on what you spent, likewise a phone/watch/ring/computer etc etc .... any electronic sale has "data" .. take out a loan/apply for credit ..  you have to give the "purpose" .... all of which is "data" .. and, most folks don't realise ... but "data" has value .. it can be sold, and resold, analysed, investigated, turned to statistics, whatever ...  it is traceable, storeable and historical......

Those who "do" all these things HATE money as it is outside their control and influence ... so the more they can get you to use their systems the happier they are, as they get more data they can sell on .....

1984 ??? Orwell was well wrong, we have gone far beyond what he imagined ... but not by governments, but by data analysis and commercial interest

Completely agree with Entwood.  Further;

Stops tax avoidance/evasion.  I still go to non maintream retailers and ask "if I pay cash will I get a discount?".... Invariably, the answer is yes.

I'll bet a manky fiver that these new systems will go some way to put small businesses under.  The local corner shop (which isn't a Tesco Metro or Sainsbury's Local), The local mechanic, barber, florist, baker..... need I go on?

It's for the benefit of who exactly?

Also cements the iPhone into general life.

I like contact less pay, if using a card. Saves a lot of agro with the machine failing to read the chip. But I wonder why it won't allow for touch payment and then entering the pin for more expensive items if required. ....or does it?

Nail on head there Nige
Another example is the Oyster Card for Londistan and surrounding area.

Use it and you get a whopping discount but most terminals have a camera fitted just like the cash point tills.
Stick your card in and not only is the Time / date / start / finish destination recorded but also your picture too.
Couple that with face recognition software on various cameras in public places and you can track people around the area.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss if the government is watching / tracking me.
I've not got anything to hide honest  :-X ;D
Its the using it for targeted advertising that pishes me off  >:(

I read an interesting article recently that said 40% of UK purchases were made using cash. Predictably Spain was a whopping 80% (they all carry large amounts of cash around as normal!). The lowest country in Europe for buying stuff using cash is Denmark- around the 20% mark. They are actively pusuing a path to ZERO cash to become the first country in Europe to not use it.

As said it will reduce black money and tax avoidance.

At 80% Spain are amateurs when it comes to cash payments compared to Ukraine, where it is virtually 100% cash. ;D ;D ;D ;D Their black economy is 50-75% of their GDP and people with good reason, don't trust banks. :( :( :( :(

Many banks have gone bust with people losing their money, 'arbitrary' impossible to get refunded charges get applied when you have a reasonable amount in an account and if the account is very healthy, this information will be sold on to people you would rather didn't know you were rich or worse if electronic access is used on the account. :o :o :o :o

The above paragraph doesn't apply if you are one of the very rich elite as you are too powerful. :( :( :( :(

When all this changes then I believe that Ukraine has changed from a post-Soviet country into a Western European one. :y :y :y :y
