Good Motoring start to the week NOT
« on: 07 July 2008, 13:45:58 »

Got lots of car work on, and i dread to think how it will end up after this mornings escapades...

Jeep needed to go to a garage ( at mates rates for a CV joint as i had given up trying to fix it) It then needs MOT on Wednesday.

Anyway it went on Fire this morning en route  ;D Sticky caliper - no damage.

Tuesday sees swmbos new car head to the dealer to have a timing belt changed ( it requires front bumper and headlight out!!) and its 6k overdue. Then it needs MOT  :o

Got a call this morning to say garage have given up trying to take driveshaft / axel off the change CV joint  :( so no charge and subsequently now not being MOT`d This week.

So any one ever done a CV on 1997 Grand Cherokee?

And anyone any ideas of SWMBOS new car from the description of its complex timing belt change routine ??

hmmm, dont you have to remove the headlight and bumper from a clit to do the belt?

But surely she hasn't downsized to a clit?

A hub puller should have it off IME, although I have no idea what arrangement is on the Jeep. Bolt the puller on, tighten centre screw, tap centre screw with hammer, tighten a bit more, etc...

Make sure everything is doused in Plus Gas beforehand. If it won't play, leave it 24 hours after another dousing and try again...

Then start resorting to a little heat, sammy, angle grinder, Petrol and box of matches.

Cheers Kevin - we already spent 2 days on it, chisel, hammers, penetrating fluid, plus gas, blowtorch with very little movement. All the bolts are off but the hub actually seems corroded on  :o

The whole driveshaft needs to come off after the hub to slide the cv gaitor on from inside to the outside.

We gave up thinking that my local mechanic mate would have more success. Nope he aint got a clue....so were now going to have another crack at it with a hub puller  :-/
