My engine has been reliably limp-moding for a couple of months now, generally when I come to a halt. It usually clears when I've gained some speed again, but sometimes it just stays on.

I'm getting really tired of it.

A local garage checked the codes and came up with an EGR problem. They cleaned it up nice, but the problem continued so I had the EGR replaced. The problem continued.

So it seems the next thing is to take off the inlet manifold and clean it up (car has done over 200,000 miles now), and change the boost sensor. This I have gleaned from ENDLESS googling trying to find any answers, and there is not a guide anywhere on how to take off a DTI inlet manifold.

Money is tight, so I'm hoping someone here can talk me through the steps to take the manifold off so I can dunk it in some stuff to clean it up.

PLEASE HELP, as I'm sick of reading forum posts that don't give any info.

You'll need the gasket ready to replace when you take the inlet manifold off, there's nothing much to it really, unplug the boost sensor, unplug the vacuum hose off the EGR valve (or undo the two bolts and take the EGR itself off), take the inlet hose off and unbolt all the manifold bolts around the edge.

Oh and I have to ask, do you own a V8S SD1?

I'm not very practical, so 'nothing much' seems like a huge Everest-sized problem.

I'm hoping someone has a few labelled pictures they can post up to help me locate where the parts you mention are.

No, my V8S is a TVR I'm afraid. It's the V8 version of the S Series from the late 80s/ early 90s, before the Chimaera and Griffth turned up.

I do love the SD1s though. I sort of know someone who runs a rally one of those.

I'm pretty sure the Vectra C forum has a step by step guide, alas I no longer have either of our DTi's so cannot photograph the relevant parts.

When you remove stuf you can either label it or you can lay bolts, brackets etc down on the ground in order as they're were on the engine. I still use that trick now as I'm a right forgetful bar steward

Ok so firstly I can't offer a "mobile mechanics" service on the 2.2DTi... .aside of a few bits I've done on my own, I don't know them well enough to be comfortable in charging someone to work on them (My forte is the V6)

With that said, I'm not a stranger to spanner wielding... so availability depending, if you wanted to get together one sunny day and have a crack, I'd be up for that.

I know where there are 2 guides on cleaning the dti inlet manifold,but as its frontera related i wont bother posting links as the frontera is a shit truck to have according to certain people on here,but if the op wants to pm me i will send him the links.

ok easiest way to sort this is to add 2 stroke oil to the fuel, this is a known way of ,
A,keeping the injectors and fuel pump lubricated as this shit low sulphure fuel doesnt do it properly,
B,better mpg and a lot smoother engine,
 ratio is half a litre to hundred litres of diesel

I run this on both our diesels believe me it works!

I do this on my zafira too, makes a world of difference, I add about 250 ml to a tankful.

Yeh, I used to do it on ours, about 350 ml (roughly a can of pop!  ) per tankful.

lol yep it very much improves things, but the b onus is how clean the egr and turbo vanes stay,although it takes a couple if doses to clean the system out after that its great!

So, if I've got a coked-up inlet manifold (and egr and boost sensor), by putting a few doses of 2 stroke oil through the system (I assume added to the diesel in the fuel tank), it'll clean it up like it would if I took the inlet off and cleaned manually?

If true, that would be great.

Does that also apply to 2.0DTi in the battlebus shitbox?
