Where's your sense of Adventure?  :P

I'm using Windows 10.  It's betterer than 8, but still not the 'proper' Start Menu like they promised.  Still no built-in DVD playback, and the Microsoft Account integration is annoying as STEMO after a few pints.  I've not used my Hotmail acount in probably 10 years, so I've now got pictures and stuff sprouting up in random places which I haven't seen for a decade.  ;D

I wish I set it up with a NEW Microsoft Account.  That would have been the better option.

I've got it on my desktop now after leaving it to do it's stiff last night and all seems ok so far. My laptop had got to the inflation but said the displayed language would be different and I'd need to reinstall the language pack later. Without knowing which language was going to be displayed I cancelled it as I need my laptop today for work i want going to take the risk .

I certainly wouldn't be attempting it on anything older than 2-3 years old (ie, Win8 era) unless the PC was a very good spec.

Zirk, you have to do the upgrade first, to register the machine. Then you can reinstall as many times as you like on that PC, for life.  That is my understanding.

Down loaded mine last night,no problems  but I lost windows 7,which I used much more than the windows 8.1 which was what the lappy came with.

Have to wait for my mate to come back from holiday to reinstall, much easier for a non I t bloke to use.

Been having a look on one of my test boxes....Theyve not proofread the help very well ;D  Thought I was going to windows 10, not 8.1 ;D ;D ;D

What can I keep when I upgrade?
What you can keep depends on the version of Windows you're running on your PC, so you'll only see the options available to you. Here's what you might see:
Windows settings
This keeps your settings such as Ease of Access, your desktop background, or Internet favourites and history.
Personal files
This keeps any files that are saved in your User folder, such as your Documents and Desktop folders.
Apps
This keeps apps that will work after you've upgraded. To get a report of which apps you currently have on your PC that will work, and those that won't, run the Upgrade Assistant, available online at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=261871 before you upgrade (you'll need to close Set-up to run the Upgrade Assistant). Some apps might work after you've upgraded but you'll need to reinstall them. You'll see a list of these in the report. You'll need your original installation media to reinstall them.
Note: If you're upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, you won't see "apps" as an option of items to keep, and you'll need to reinstall your apps using the original installation media.
Nothing
This deletes everything, including all of your apps, and replaces your current version of Windows with Windows 8.1. Your personal files will be moved to the windows.old folder. You can find more info online at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=12416.
If you choose Nothing, make sure you do the following before you continue:
·   Back up your files to an external hard drive, DVD or CD, USB flash drive or network folder.
·   Find the installation media or confirmation emails - if you bought programs online - for the apps that will work and will need to be reinstalled.
Note: If you use a fingerprint reader or another biometric device to sign in to your PC, make sure you write down your password. You'll have to enter your username and password the first time you sign in to Windows after upgrading to Windows 8.1.

On my windows 7 laptop, every app still works after the upgrade.

Perhaps I'm lucky?

Installation still seems very buggy, especially if you have tons of apps on your old machine, my advice would be to clone your original C: hard drive, either as a roll back up or something to try it on first.

2 of 3 win10 upgrades Ive done on my Sons machines (all win7) have issues, including the Boot Up to the original OS and missing apps and a lot of stuff from the old desktop, all backed up so no real issues.

If you have lost stuff or important docs or info have a look in the Windows.old folder, should be in there somewhere, assuming you've not done a clean install.

On the contrary.  Win 7 was a pile of shite.

Not half as bad as Win8, and some of us have machines with Win8 on from new.  8.1 Upgrade didn't help much, so to get a FREE upgrade to Win10 makes a lot of sense.

If I had a choice, I'd still be using Windows 3.1.  I hated 95 when it came out, and I was running a Beta for donkey's.

I am an Apple FanBoy though.  ::)
