Was it raining? Had this for years until I got a human who understood it was a water fault. Now fixed (until next time!)

My Sky broadband is about to go fibre :y

ADSL whilst not fast should be stable, give this a go and report back:

http://speedtest.btwholesale.com
That would be pointless. It's ok when it works.

Getting this kind of ADSL problem resolved it a game that you have to play by BTs rules if you want it fixed - that's the first step.
I'm with sky.

Who are quite happy to keep taking your money. I think the onus is on you the customer to register your dissatisfaction in the first place with Sky's product (assuming the contract hasn't got get out clauses). That may well mean having to wait listening to some crap music for 15 or 30 minutes . so be it. There may be a fault or more likely contention in your area. How do you know that until x number of customers in your area have complained then it doesn't get flagged to the engineering group (in Sky) for resolution with whoever manages and supplies the infrastructure ?

If the broadband infrastructure is poor in your area then write / email your MP. The reason I suggest this is that John Redwood's Diary today is asking about broadband speeds in his Reading constituency and saying that if people have problems and contact him he will take it up with the Minister.

You might like to include the John Redwood link in your email to your MP to show that other MP's are working on behalf of their constituents to improve their comms.

Just a quick heads up.....if you do blow Sky out make sure that you cancel the direct debit PDQ because although they appear to be squeaky....I've had past dealings with them and, although I'm basing it on my own experience with them .....they are in effect a bunch of scam artists who will mug you over if given half a chance. >:(

I have kind of worked in this field before and I understand the problem of undercapacity. Thing is, all the complaining in the world will not cure the problem and changing to BT would make no difference at all. Fibre is not available in this area and I can't see anything changing until it is.

As for sky, they are going through a massive customer recruitment campaign, and have little time for existing customers.

No matter what anyone says, no one can compete with sky for TV and, as I get my broadband for 'free', there is no percentage in changing to another provider for that, whilst keeping sky tv.

I'm f***ed.  ;D

Ah the roll over and accept it approach. More suited to a third world country. In Britain complaining does get results just takes time and effort. The Telcos are not mind readers though they will probably have an idea that your area is underperforming.

Its more reporting the fault, you can't really complain until you have told them about your problem and given them a chance to fix it. If it is dropping out completely then I would strongly suspect an intermittent line fault. Something BT Openreach can and will fix if suitably encouraged. If its free and it does not bother you however than as you say no problem  :D

I'm in process of switching back to my staff broadband perk, had BT for a while at the new house. But speeds are not too shabby for a Friday evening...

I'll never get anything like that as I live at the far end of the road but even 10 times my current speeds will make streaming a viable option  :y

No cable here and never will be ::)

I'll be happy with 15 Meg which is the bottom end of the estimate.
